HOWELL February 3 St. Andrews overcame a slow start to defeat Howell High 61-54 in a non-league basketball game on Feb- ruary 3 at Arthur Hill. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Bulldogs rallied to take a 22-19 half- time lead. Howell never could catch up and the game ended with the Bulldogs 61-54 victory. BAY CITY ST. STANISLAUS February 5 Guard Pete Rosnowski used his height and sharp- shooting to lead St. Stans to a 51-43 victory over St. Andrews on February 5. The Stags led by 10 points early in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs, led by Bob Laundra, closed the gap to 4 points. The Stags took over in the second half and clinched the victory. MICHIGAN LUTHERAN SEMINARY February 17 St. Andrew showed its scoring power as they racked up an 81-57 victory over Michigan Lutheran Seminary February 17. Although shorter, the Bulldogs showed slicker ball handling and shooting. The third quarter made the big difference as St. Andrews scored 32 points. Ron Erway led a well balanced scoring attack with 24 points. SS. PETER AND PAUL February 24 Cross-town Rival SS. Peter and Paul, ended St. An- drews chances for a second place tie in the VPI., by defeating the Bulldogs 66-50, February 24. The Bull- dogs started the game on the right foot, as they took an early lead, but by halftime fell behind 27-20. At the end of the third quarter, the lead was 13 points, mostly due to the rebounding of center Tony Piwo- warski and the shooting of guard Mike Kosichusko. Bob Bordeaux led Sr. Andrew scoring with 15 points. Sophomore Don Beyers added 15 and Bob Laundra 10. MICHIGAN LUTHERAN SEMINARY February 26 In a game played February 26, the Bulldogs ended the season with a victory, by downing Michigan Luth- eran Seminary 57-50. Seminary jumped into a 9-5 first quarter lead and increased it to a Z2-l7 halftime score. St. Andrews led by Bob Bordeaux and jim Nigl went on a scoring spree which netted 40 points in the second half. Bordeaux and Nigl shared scoring honors with 18 points apiece. The High and Mighty have it. ARTHUR HlLl. TECH December -l The Bulldogs, playing their hrst game of the season, came through with an exciting -'lil-45 victory over Arthur Hill Tech. Play was quite rugged and the score changed hands often. Bob Laundra led St. An- drew, scoring with l5 points. BAY CITY YISITATION December lf! St. Andrews playing their first VPL League game, came through with an easy 57--'lo victory. The Bull- dogs led throughout most of the game and substitutes played in the last quarter. Bob Laundra found the range as he sank in 22 points. ST. MARYS January 6 The surprising Bulldogs stopped the Red Raiders winning streak at four straight wins by defeating them of-48 at the Arthur Hill gym, Bob Laundra and Mike XY-'alderzak. a pair of husky rebounders. showed their scoring ability as well, with 22 and l9 points respectively. Although only ahead by a l2-ll margin in the first quarter. the Buldogs pulled away and were never seriously threatened. Basketball BAY CITY ST. STANISLAUS january l3 St. Andrews came close to defeating the high- scoring Stags on january l5. Although losing by a 45- 52 margin, the Bulldogs were pesky throughout the game and managed to bottle up St. Stans top scorer, Pete Roznowski. Bob Laundra and Mike Wfalderzak helped keep the score tied 17-17 in the first half. From then on the Stags took over and were never threatened. Laundra led St. Andrew scoring with 9 points, while Ron Erway and Bob Bordeaux each contributed 8. BAY CITY sr. 1AMEs January 15 Andys Cagers defeated Bay City St. James 65-59, january 15. The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead and were never trailing. St. Andrews received balanced scoring, as Bob Bordeaux had lT points, Bob Laundra l-fl, and Ron Etway li This was the fifth triumph for the Bulldogs. ST. MARYS January 20 The Bulldogs lost their fourth game of the season. losing to St. Marys 50--18 january 20. lt was nip and tuck throughout the game and the half ended in a 22-22 deadlock. St. Andrews fell behind in the third quarter 57-29, but rallied behind the scoring of Bob Laundra to tie at 40-40 entering the fourth quarter. Baskets by ,lim O'Donnel and Tom Herm gave St. Marys a 50-46 lead with less than a minute to play. Ron Erway scored for St. Andrews as the buzzer rang. Laundra and Erway led the Bulldogs scoring with li points each SS. PETER AND PAUL january 22 On Thursday, .lanuary 22, the Bulldogs clashed with arch-rival St. Petes and suffered a bitter defeat 49-40. St. Petes dominated play throughout the game with St. Andrews trailing in all 4 quarters. Coach Don Eranzs bulldogs were hampered by the loss of Ronald Erway, the outstanding right forward. Bob Bordeaux led the team scoring with 12 points. The burly Barb Laundra. a o foot 2 inch center, con- trolled the rebounds and paced the defensive play of the te.iin. XX'ith a 26-l-4 lead at the half, St. Pete's broke loose in the third quarter. with St. Andrews unable to come within 6 points of them. BAY CITY VISITATION january 29 The Bulldogs, with a revamped starting unit. de- feated Bay Cny Visitation easily, 52-59. St. Andrews chalkcd up .1 29-12 halftime lead. and exploded in the third quarter to take a tremendous 415-18 third quar- ter advantage. Reserves played the rest of the way for St. Andrews.
