Basketball BAY cirY v1siTAT1oN January 31 For the second time this season the Bulldogs overpowered the Panthers at Bay City. In this battle the Panthers staged a rugged first quarter to hold a 22-7 lead. Then the Bulldogs began to close the margin. With Robert Laundra and Michael XWalderzak leading the way, the Bulldogs cut into the lead and by the half trailed by only a few points. In the second half it was all St. Andrew as the Bulldog marlfcsmen began to find the range. Pulling out in front they were never seriously threatened again. The final score was 58-45 as Robert Laundra scored 22 points and Michael XX'alderzak scored 17 HOWELL February 4 In an exciting overtime battle, Howell snealced by St. Andrew by a 61-58 score. Howell earned the victory by outscoring the Bulldogs 7-4 in the overtime period. Michael Walderzak paced the losers with 17 points followed by Ronald Erway and Terrance Beechler who collected 16 and 15 points respectively. BAY CITY ST. STANISLAUS February 6 The towering Stags from Bay City invaded Saginaw and again overpowered a stalling Bull- dog attack 57-45. St. Andrew remained in con- tention throughout the first half with the score 21-19 in favor of the Stags at the opening of the third quarter. As in the first game between the two teams, St. Stanislaus couldn't miss the basket in the second half. The pin point shooting of the Stags slowly pulled them in front. After the Stags cleared the bench in the late stages of the game, the Bulldogs pulled to within 12 points as Michael Walderzak was scoring leader with 15 points. BAY CITY ST. JAMES February ii In the second meeting of two closely matched rivals, St. James and St. Andrew, the Bulldogs were defeated after a hard struggle 58-53. St. Andrew suffered its usual third quarter slump which proved to be costly in their defeat. Leading the Bulldog attack were Senior Terrance Beechler and Sopho- more Michael Walderzak with 15 and 10 points respectively. ALPENA CATHOLIC CENTRAL February 15 ln the late stages of the season the Bulldogs pulled an upset by defeating the Thunderbolts of Alpena Catholic Central 60-56. Vifith the home court advantage and the support of the students they put the game on ice in the last few seconds on a basket and two free throws by Robert Bordeaux. This was the most satisfying game of the season for Coach Franz's cagers.
