Bulldogs score as Alvin Luplow drops in a basket against Sacred Heart, Mt. Pleasant. ST. MARY February 12 In charge from the start, the Bulldogs scored a 64-48 non-conference win over Saginaw St. Mary'S. Height and a well-balanced attack gave St. Andrew's its winning formula. Wallace Bellile took scoring honors with 26 points. BAY CITY VIS ITATION February 15 Winning their sixth victory in ten starts, the Bulldogs breezed to a 51-38 non-conference win over Bay City Visitation. The Bulldogs built up their advan- tage in the first and last periods and held the Panthers to a stalemate during the middle periods. Raymond Ayotte was high-scorer with 18 points followed by Alvin Luplow with 15. BAY CITY ST. JAMES February 19 Alvin Luplow paced the Bulldogs to their seventh victory, 64-45 over Bay City St. james. Luplow scored 20 points, while Wallace Bellile made 16 points. This game marked the Bulldogs' fourth consecutive non- league win. PLEASANT SACRED HEART February 21 Troubled all season by a low percentage of free throws, the Bulldogs connected on 20 of 25 free throw attempts to upset Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy S4-38. Raymond Ayotte was the leading scorer, pushing in 9 of 10 free throw attempts and 7 baskets for a total of 23 points. Wallace Bellile followed with 16 points. BAY CITY VISITATION February 26 Victory was the cry as the Bulldogs scored a 70-44 victory over the Panthers of Bay City Visitation. High- scorer was Wallace Bellile with 24 points. MT. PLEASANT HIGH SCHOOL March 1 In the closing game of the season, the Bulldogs lost by a close margin, 68-66, to the Mt. Pleasant Oilers. Although the Bulldogs led until the last minute of the game, Mt. Pleasant won with a pair of free throws by Michael Claus. Wallace Bellile paced St. Andrew with 23 points. Basketball The Bulldog cagers, after a slow start, wound up their season with a record of nine victories and five defeats. I-lere, also the same teamwork and school spirit helped to lift the Bulldogs out of the early season doldrums into a better basketball team than the school has seen in quite awhile, with nine victories in their last eleven starts. Forward Michael Hart fights for the basketball against arch rival S.S. Peter and Paul's. VA RS ITY BAS KETBALL ALPENA CATHOLIC CENTRAL December 14 Displaying a well-balanced, effective team, Alpena Catholic Central led from the beginning to hand the Bulldogs their first defeat 70-44. Even though the Bull- dogs tried their best, they could not stop the more ex- perienced Thunderbolts. Wallace Bellile led the Bulldogs with 16 points and Donald Haight followed with 9 points. SS. PETER 8 PAUL December 18 A free throw in the final seconds of the game by jerry Baumler enabled the Bulldogs cross-town rivals, the SS . Peter and Paul Crusaders to score a 41-40 vic- tory. After battling all the way, Gerald McMullen tossed in two free throws to tie the score and set the stage for Baum1er's dramatic finish. Raymond Ayotte was high-point man for the Bulldogs, scoring 13 points. ST. STANISLAUS January 8 After battling the St. Stanislaus Stags on even terms for the first half, the Bulldogs suffered their third straight loss, 66-47. The second half proved to be disastrous as the Stags scored 38 points to the Bulldogs' 21. High-scorer for the Bulldogs was Raymond Ayotte with 16 points, Donald Haight followed with 9. ST. MARY january 10 Wallace Bellile scored 26 points to lead the Bulldogs to their first basketball victory, a 58-42 conquest of Saginaw St. Mary's. The Maroons never really got started as the taller Bulldogs pushed into a 22-6 lead in the first period and were never threatened thereafter. Alvin Luplow followed Bellile in the scoring department with 12 points. BAY CITY ST. JAMES january 15 After battling to a 35-35 tie during the first half, St. james fell before the Bulldog assault, 64-48. Springing into action during the second half, the Bull- dogs scored 29 points to their opponent's 13. Raymond Ayotte led the scoring with 24 points. ALPENA CATHOLIC CENTRAL January 18 Forcing the game into overtime, the Bulldogs scored a 58-56 upset over Alpena Catholic Central. Terrance Beech1er's two free throws in the final seconds won the game and dropped Alpena from the Class B Division lead. Michael Hart led the Bulldogs scoring with 21 points. A basket by Alvin Luplow and a free throw by Raymond Ayotte established the Bulldogs' triumph. Ayotte topped the Bulldogs' scoring with 15 points and Bellile followed with ten. BAY CITY ST. STANISLAUS February 5 Trailing all the way, the Bulldogs lost a 58-S2 de- cision to the pace-setting Stags of St. Stanislaus. Wallace Bellile topped the Bulldogs' scoring with 18 points, while Raymond Ayotte contributed 13.
