Basketball St. Andrew Bulldogs, coached by Don Franz, opened the 1955-56 basketball season with an unsuccessful non- league tilt with Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart. Following this loss came a series of losses including one to SS. Peter and Paul 54-51, three games in the Flint Invita- tional Tournament and one to Alpena Catholic Central. This string of six losses was finally broken when the Bulldogs defeated the Stags of St. Stanislaus, Bay City, in a very close game, with the Bulldogs coming out on top, 57-52. Victory was short lived for the Bulldogs, for the fol- lowing game brought defeat from the Maroons of St. Mary in a close non-league game, 40-38. The Bulldogs won their second cage game by defeat- ing the Irish of St James, Bay City 63-47. After a close first quarter, the Bulldogs led throughout the game. The Thunderbolts of Alpena CC. ended victory for the Bulldogs by defeating them 65-62. The lead changed hands several times with Alpena on top at halftime 29-28. The second half was hard fought by both teams. For the second time during the season the Bulldogs met defeat at the hands of the Midgets of SS. Peter and Patil. The lead see-sawed back and forth until the final two minutes, when the Midgets rallied for a 5 point lead, to win 56-51. Following this loss were two more losses coming from St. Stanislaus, Bay City, and St. Mary of Saginaw. With only three games remaining in the regular season play, the Bulldogs defeated Visitation, Bay City two games in succession, but were defeated in the final game against Mt. Pleasant. 9 5 Much to the dismay of Wallace Bellile and Tom Griffore, it another score for SS. Peter and Paul, ii I, It's a battle for a rebound between St. Andrew and St. Mary
