So in this MAHIAN YEAH, the pictures of PRAYING HANDS in our annual symbolize our love to Mary. Beneath the grace and wondrous poise of praying hands lies the realization that they reach out to bless and heal the wounds of the world. ,emi . AGNES ACADEMY is dedicated to a heroic young girl, ST. AGNES of Rome, who was beheaded for her faith and purity early in the Fourth Century, during the persecutionof Dio cletian. Little did St. Agnes dream, when she passed the COLOSSEUM on her way to school, or admired the marble columns , then gracing the ROMAN FORUM, that her name would be held in honor by Catholic Americans in the Twentieth Century who, like her, aspire to be CRUSADEHS of Christ and Mary. The tomb of ST. AGNES is one of the numerous treasures far, of Rome, the Etemal City. ', ' ' f x Sponsored by ALLIANCE LUMBER COMPANY SAA. i954 These marble slabs are part of the tomb which is revered in the CATACOMBS OF ST. AGNES in Home. Carrying wax-tapers and led by a guide, the sisters tread the lmderground passages of the CATACOMBS OF ST. AGNES which date from the second to the fourth century. In the BASILICA OF ST. AGNES erected by Constantine the Great over her tomb and restored many times, Sister M.. llilga prayed for all the students of St. Agnes Academy during her recent trip to Europe. When the camera was placed in the arched open- ing of the slabs, this picture of the stone coffin of ST. AGNES behind an iron grating resulted. May the heroic example of SL. At l0:O7 in the moming of November 23, 1953, four miles east of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, in an accident the cause of which is unknown, we lost a friend whom we shall never forget. We like to think that Doris is a very fortunate member ofour class for she has already won her place in our Father's House. For us, her class- mates, she left behind sunshine, sweetness, and pleasant memories. We remember how brightly she always smiled, how proud she was of her cheerleading uniform, and how well she did the cheers. Fondly we recall how we teased her when she had the flu, what a beautiful Madonna she made last year in the Christmas Play, as well as how active she was in the music department of S.A.A- Always we shall treasure these memories, and we feel confident that with God's grace and Doris' intercession the Class of '54 may someday join her for an everlasting Alumm Reunion. Who said he didn't believe in flying saucers? That smile on Roger fbelowl can only mean one thing, a victory in sight. Roger received honors not only in track but he was outstanding also in every other field of sports. Track Coach, Father Bauer, and assistant, Alvie Wil- kins, proudl present the fleet relay team of 53 who won the mile refiay trophy at the Alliance Invitational Meet. We salute the boys and the coaches for their excellent work. Pictured are, left to right, Alvie Wilkins, Buford Williams, Roger Golden, and Dick Boness. After track comes the fishing season. Are we intruding upon the scene of a fishennan's paradise, Pat? By the looks of the abbreviated bench, prospects aren't too ood, are they?
