Before the ball could hit the ground, RMCS CSWQ Martin took up the challenge of crew representative and served ad- mirably as Command Senior Chief through the end of the cruise. A Michigan native, Martin had served on board amphibs and destroyers as well as ashore in Brunswick. Maine. Also close to the end of his tour, Martin surrendered his position as senior Radioman and OC Divisional Chief and plunged into his varied duties which included participation in all department head meetings, advising junior and senior enlisted, and organizing Chiefs Mess ac- tivities.
