x 1 , f , , X NAVIGATION DEPARTMENT is responsible for providf ing safe and effective navigation and piloting of the ship. tasks of the Navigation Department include the contrnualand accurate plotting of the ship 's course and position, recom- mending courses to be steered, and the procurementand mam- tenance of navigational charts, publications and equipment. People make Navigation Department special on the SPRU- ANCE. N MEDICAL - a part of Navigation Department, is responsi- ble for the care and treatment of sick and injured personnel. I t ls a vibrant organization that operates with all the expert etiiciency of a razor-sharp scalpel in the hands of a skilled surgeon. A floating hospital at sea, superbly equipped and manned with skilled personnel who are ready to respond to any medical emergency as well as routine care to the sick. The Medical Department also cooperates with military and civil- ian authorities in matters pertaining to health and sanitation in the event of local disasters or emergencies. All in all, as many satisfied crew members will tell you, the degree of r--A-4, medical care administered right here on board ship is the begf to be found. MASTER-AT-ARMS - Back in the 1600's they were called sea corporals, and they were the keepers of all swords, car. bines, muskets and small arms aboard ship.
