LOVING A SAILOR Loving a sailor is not always gay And loving him is a high price to pay lt? mostly loving with nothing to hold It? being young, yet feeling old It? having him whispering his love to you It? whispering hack that you love him too Then comes a kiss, a promise of love Reluctantly, painfully, letting him go While you're dying inside from wanting him so Watching him leave, with eyes full of tears Standing alone with hopes, dreams, and fears lt? sending a letter with the stamp upside down To a faraway lover, in a far away town ltk going to a church to kneel and pray And really meaning the things that you say And though you know that he's far away And just keep on loving him more each day Being in love will merit your dreams And thoughts of heaven where loves light gleams Days go by and no mail for a spell You wait for some word to hear that heb well The letter arrives and you5'e filled with joy You're like a small child with a shining new toy With fingers that tremble and heart beating fast You tear open the letter and read so fast Yes, he is doing well, and he misses you so And its filled with the love you wanted to know Weeks are now month and months are a ear S, .Y You're waiting for the day, you'll have no more fear Time passes slowly, yet its gone very fast You're barely aware its here till it? past Yes, loving a sailor brings bitterness and teals Loneliness, sadness, and despondent years Loving a sailor isn't much fun But its well worth the price when his time is done Remember he? thinking of you every day Heb sad and lonely for being away So love him, miss him, and try to be bmver And always be proud of having a sailor ' ANN 1

COUUANDING OFFICER USS SPRUANCE Ibbeilll FPO NEW YORK OISDT .X N. The pages of this book are dedicated to the hearty Sprumen who literally sailed the Seven Seas in the year 1982. Due to the ship's missions however, these pages lack the usual scenes of liberty ports and foreign celebrations. There weren't many, and those that we came upon were far from common. What you see here are mostly scenes of a sailor's life'at sea. Scenes that are unique to the USS SPRUANCE, yet they are being repeated by other ships and other crews even as you gaze upon them. The over 200 days underway brought the crew much closer together than ever beiore. Boys turned into men, technicians and mechanics became professionals, and self reliance became the watchword. By our cruise, the men oi the Quiet Warrior have helped keep the traditions of the sea and the mystique of sailors and far away places alive for those who will follow us down to the sea in ships. I'm certain that in the years to come, those who lived this odyssey and those who stayed behind to wait, will treasure the memories this book will evoke. T
