eadin th ay WITH CAPACITY, CAPABILITY, EXPERIENCE Today's Navy-indeed the defense of our country- demands more than sm-all numbers of large ships...or large numbers of small ships. lt requires significant numbers of highly capable ships. effectively armed and manned to operate in high threat areas. lt requires destroyers and cruisers like the ones built by Ingalls Shipbuilding Division of Litton Industries. A ln the past seven years, 34 new destroyers were added to the Navy Fleet. All were built by Ingalls- 30 Spruance class destroyers and four Kidd class guided missile destroyersmdemonstrating our proven capacity for high rate production. Today, as the lead shipbuilder for the TICONDEROGA QCG 47l class of guided missile cruisers, Ingalls is putting the Shield of the Fleet, the Aegis combat system, to sea. TICONDEROGA, well ahead of her original schedule set nearly four years ago, is in final construction and testing-on her way to commissioning in January 1983. Follow on ships of the class are in various stages of production. J For the future, the Navy's next generation destroyer program fDDG 51l will demand the experience, capability and capacity necessary to design and build this 60-ship fleet between 1985 and the year 2000. lt will require the kind of exceptional capability, record of performance and lead ship experience established by Ingalls Shipbuilding during the past four decades.
