Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1988 volume:

Each year, the annual staff nominates at least 4 people for the yearbook dedication. The staff then votes on the one person they feel deserves the honor of the dedication. This year, the “Safari Staff’ proudly dedicates our annual to Mr. Tom Sanders. Coach Sanders has taught at SHS for five years. He is a P.E. teacher, a science teacher, and is the athletic director. But he is more than that, he is also a friend to us all. He has two sons, Matthew and Mark, and a very kind and beautiful wife, Teresa. She has also dedicated herself to this school by directing the Miss Springville pageant for the last three years. Their pride and dedication to this school has made us love them a lot. Congratulations and thank you for all you’ve given us. DEDIGflTION “KING □FTttE JUNGLE 'u nita Amos ■Secretary Mrs. Betty Hill is SHS’s coun- selor. To regrets of his friends, it was in his best interest that he retire in November of 1987. Although we had to let him go his way, he will forever be a part of SHS. Words could never express how we miss him, so we could never make them try. However, this poem was written for him the day he left — it only begins to show our hearts. Bill Tucker How much you’ve meant To my life for these years, Can not be told without shedding of tears. You stood beside me When nothing was right, You believed in me And for that you would fight. You were part of school No one can replace When I see your room — I see your face. But your spirit lives on In the hearts of Springville High Let’s just say: “I Love You” And never “good-bye.” Mr. Bill, you touched our lives in many different ways. Your influence will never be forgotten. It had a lot of drama, action, and especially a lot of fun. One important aspect of this play was the fact that Mr. Clay Smith wrote and directed this play himself. He wanted a play that would have enough parts for everyone who want- ed one, and he just couldn’t find one. Finally, he decided to write his own play. After many hours of hard thought, he came up with Pier 93. The Seniors are very proud of him, and would like to congratulate him on a job well done. Springvillc High School is very proud of all of these girls, and we think that they are all win- ners. Miss Congeniality is the most important award of the Miss Springville. It is an award chosen, by the girls themselves, to give to an individual that has somehow exhibited to them the spirit of the pag- eant itself. This year’s recipient is Miss Dana Gortncy. I’m sure going to miss her not being here; next year. Good Luck, Angie. I love you.” Joyce Nichols ‘TfC mff “Teaching school with a child in that school has advantages and disadvantages. I have always been with my children; therefore, I've never had to leave them with someone else. In addition. I have been actively in- volved in all the extracurricular activities which I feel is an important part of a par- ent’s responsibility to his children. How- ever, my presence in the school everyday has caused my children many frustrations and problems. I know too much about things I would never know if I wasn’t a teacher. The knowledge may be good for me as a parent, but it has been hard on my children as students. Hopefully, the advan- tages have overshadowed the disadvan- tages.” Ann Terry “It has been a pleasure having Scott attend the same school where I teach. Being together has fostered a closeness that I will always treasure. We have shared many experiences that I will remember with pleasant memories.” Janice Hunter Joyce Nichols is the custodian of the elementary school. Ann Terry teaches English and History. It takes a lot of hard work, pride, dedication, leadership, spirit, and more. The 1987 Springville Ti- gers showed these characteristics from the very first game until they went to the Second Round of the State Playoffs and a 9-3 overall re- cord. The fans, with their “spirit towels” played a big part in the motivation of the team. One hasn t long to ponder before a smile appears. So constant was your foolery — such fun over the years. Whether at the ballpark — many hours there you stayed, Or hitching up Ole Midnight — what a team you made! Or in the church choir singing — bearing down on bass, Or just at home with family, all gathered at your place . . The simple things to you meant most, combread; butterbeans, A Sunday game of sockball and good homemade ice-cream. Listening to the Statler Brothers, or any ole banjo picker, Country music in general caused warmth inside your ticker. These are just a sampling of the many things remembered, Of all the precious memories your life to us has rendered. So here's to you our dear loved brother Till the day there'll be another Time of union in our spirits with our Lord. Vicki Stanford We dedicate this page in loving memory of our grandfather, Mr. Hobert Jones, who passed away May 17, 1987. Our Grandfather’s support to all of SHS’s students, and great attendance and pride in the sports program will always be a treasured memory of him. We were privileged to be blessed by his presence, and his support, love, and pride will live with us forever. 54 'W Sl-wv g Snypvnjvg pw Sr pwny -nrif £-- t g :wm fe tV? r S yp S VP f9 7vw 0 ASHVILLE SAYINGS BANK “The Bank of Tomorrow With the Spirit of the Past.” Convenient — Locations ASHVILLE 594-4141 STEELE 538-3565 ODENVILLE 629-6401 SPRINGVILLE 467-7691 ‘Suc ue'i “Sa nei Heath Buckijj)r meets Goj 157 i'P tCZ----- 7ctC. 158 ___________________________ tfannett (2o tfrCime t£4. o£; 'Scvitfena (Zomfotuty “S itftMty itutt, @6 Kfi£ime U4. 9 : s4£a utut “Say cuuC 3 cnlafe, o.. 4330 P uve££ 4ve.
