Through the year there were several mishaps. The many injuries and the ineligibility of one of our players put a damper on the team spirit, but thanks to the Senior leadership and fine coaching staff, they were able to overcome it and work well together. There were 14 Seniors on the Tiger football team and they will be greatly missed next year, but several underclassmen saw a lot of playing time, which will help them in the future. This year’s team had a lot of pride and a lot of spirit, although they didn’t do as well as they had hoped, we are still very proud and wish the best of luck to next year’s team! 36 Robert Harris; Asst. Coaches —Jimmy Owens, Tom Sanders, and Tom McDowell Head Coach All the hard work and long hours of practice paid off this summer for our Varsity Cheerleaders. After a long, hard, competitive week at the University of Alabama High School Clinic they were awarded the honor of State 2-A Champions! This was the first year the AHSAA held a champion- ship competition. For competition, they had an allot- ted time of three minutes and ten seconds to perform their routine. Their routine consisted of a pom pom routine, two cheers, two chants, double stunts, and gymnastics. They were judged for their spirit, form, timing and precision, voice, degree of difficulty and originality. Our Tigerettes also captured the first place All-State Basketball award during the week of competition, followed by the first place award in the All-State Foot- ball competition. Receiving this high honor, the Tigerettes earned the prestigous center front 50 yard line cheering position during the UA North-South football game where they performed at half-time. Cheerleading is now considered a year round sport and nobody probably knows of all the hard work and time that is put into the event. We are very proud of our girls, and proud that they could represent our school so well. Congratulations to the first annual 2-A State Champs!!! 40 SPORT FUNNIES This isn’t the football field. - I 1 We expect money for this. Then you put it in the oven and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. This we work on all year. Many and various ways are used to meet this goal — and no one can say that learning can’t be fun after com- pleting second grade! We look forward all year to our annual field trip to Desota Caverns in Childersburg. This is also a learning experience. Not many 8 yr. olds can effec- tively use words like stalactite” and stalagmite” and know which is which! Throughout the year you will find clues within the classrooms and halls as to what is going on. Just look for Science projects, seasoned art work, special units, etc. Twice a year we participate in school-wide activities, the May Day program and Halloween activities. This summer our sponsor, Nancy Tucker, Jean Buckner and ten of the members attended a workshop at Auburn University on August T3. The staff saw many films and was asked to draw layouts and design a cover for the contest between all of the schools attending. Each school was asked to select a theme that came from a new happening in their community. They thought back to the new prison and designed their layouts around that idea. On the last day, they were awarded a trophy for Best Design and Layout. ANNUAL STAFF WINS A TROPHY AT AUBURN B B HAULERS INC.
