EMPHASIS 74 SPRINGVILLE HIGH SCHOOL School began with the students excited about finally getting in the new building. But. during reg- istration everyone recognized the old familar sights of last year: the temporary classrooms, workmen, and equipment were still here. Fi- nally with much cooperation on the part of the students and fac- ulty. were in the new school by the second six weeks. The girls at SHS decided to show everyone that they had equal rights when the Juniors and Seniors challenged the Soph- omores and Freshmen to a game of powder puff football. The beautiful cheerleaders really stole the show and you had to look twice to know that they were the senior varsity football players. The Juniors and Seniors, under the great direction of Coach Skippy Massey, won 8-0. The newly formed Springville High School Band played for the first time at the Springville-Ash- ville football game. A very enthu- siastic crowd gave them several standing ovations. The band also presented a Spring Concert and we are looking forward to seeing them regularily next year. 3 4 Once the empty halls echoed with only the sound of silent books, bound with hidden knowl- edge, waiting to be made known by some lonely something. A bell rings—suddenly as if filled with the sweet breath of life the halls shout with laughter, joy, excitement, and some with sor- row and sadness. These walls, walls, which once harboured emptiness, are now ex- panded by walking storehouses of knowledge. Appropiately termed by our good friend Webster, a student is one who is engaged in study; a scholar; one devoted to hooks or learning; a systematic observer. Perceiving and receiv- ing, filling all the vastness of his mind. Some will leave and some re- main. but still the name will be the same . . . ... Thursday night brought a hint of fall and the smell of hotdogs, which made for a perfect night to burn the Bulldogs on our bonfire.
