TIGER 1971 SPRINGVILLE HIGH SCHOOL Springville, Alabama FOREWORD The 1971 Annual Staff pre- sents for your enjoyment our 1971 Tiger. On these few pages we have tried to recapture some of the joys and excitements we wit- nessed in our last year at dear old Springville High School. Rea- lizing we could not possibly be witness to them all we want to say thank you for these and all the others. We hope you will cherish these memories we have portrayed as much as we cherish these past years with you at S.H.S. 3 For the past three years, Mr. Jarrett has unceasingly devoted every possible effort toward bet- tering the physical and social well-being of our school. Combining firm guidance and friendliness to a student... Handling office matters with the efficiency a school needs .. . This is our principal......Mr. Charles L. Jarrett V ' Working out daily classroom problems with teach- ers .... The ‘71' Tiger is lovingly and appreciably dedicated to Mr. Bill Tucker, who in our last year of high school gave us guidance when it was most needed, had faith in us and backed all of our undertakings, and most of all was a friend to each of us at all times. Not many of us are material for greatness, according to the gen- eral acceptance of the term, but each has something to give to jus- tify the gift of life. True greatness consists in being great in little things . . . Love . . . Friendship . . . Understanding . . . Thoughtfulness . . . Kindness . . . Faith . . . Goodness ... A day in the life of Bill Tucker is made up of all these things. WILLIAM F. TUCKER 5 HERE THEY COME HERE THEY COME HERE THEY COME They’ve learned to think ... ] More than you think they think . . . Time certainly had a way of slip- ping by them as well as others. The carnival was held in Oct- ober. The carnival netted $600. The Proceeds from the carnival go for the Junior-Senior Prom. The prom was held at the Tutwiler Hotel on April 23rd. The annual prom held in the Crystal room was a great Success. The anticipation and excite- ment mounted as the day of April 16th slowly grew near. That was the day the Juniors were to order their class rings. Fund-raising methods the Juniors used for the prom were, one-the carnival, two-selling donuts twice, three-a car wash. The Junior class should be congrat- ulated. 25 The Sophomore class has been a very exhuberent class this year. The girls captured first place in the class tournaments and the boys got second place. The girls had been working very hard for first place. They came in second place in the seventh grade. They are thinking about raising money for the prom this year. Sophomore Girls Win Class .... Valuable experi- ence can be obtained by these members which may help them after graduation in the business world. Future clubs will be trained to integrate their ac- tivities more and more with the business and the administration. 50 Annual Staff The Tiger Annual staff is com- posed of senior students. The work is a demanding but ful- filling job. These students work hard to capture the school memories and events so they will be remembered. The year is filled with picture taking, rushed deadlines, frantic typing, skilled drawing etc. When all deadlines have been met, the staff can relax and look over a job well done. The student council seeks to be a sounding board for the student body, at the same time, act as a sounding board of the adminis- tration. The first goal is to build a bridge of communication be- tween the two assuring the har- mony needed for an effective school. The second goal of the student council should be the successful mustering of student resources and to bring these good resources to bear on the needs and problems of the school and community. President—Debbie Palmer Vice Pres.—lanice Brown Secretary-Treas.—Debera Williams 52 S Club Looking to the Future Speech Club Be yourself .... But be your best self. Speak the Truth .... The spoken word can never be recalled. Dedicated to developing speak- ers by challenging their thoughts and instilling in them a purpose for the spoken work. To speak to student groups on subjects that are meaningful, thereby making our school better than before. 55 Beta Club The Beta Club is a national or- ganization. Members are chosen on the basis of honorable character, commendable attitude and creditable achievement. The purpose of the club is to reward merit and elevate the moral wel- fare of high-school students. The Beta Club is also responsible for printing the school paper each month. EDITOR—S. As members of “THE CLUB” we have certain well-defined re- sponsibilities to our school and community. We help promote school spirit by making posters, planning pep rallies, and raising money for school projects. As members of this organiza- tion we are eligible to try out for cheerleader and high-stepper. Although this is only our first year, we have big plans for the future. GO TIGERS!!!!!!! The people there live beyond the average age and this aroused the federal govern- ment to investigate. The old folks, who still have much energy and vitality, live forever and never die in the Kingdom of Reggy’s Dream under the Rule of Queen Eleanor. However, the county nurse finds herself very much interested in the govern- ment agent. Queen Eleanor soon declares their Wedding Day which influenced the old folks to live even longer.
