The 1959 Tiger Published by Seniors of Springville High School Springville, Alabama Dedication To Our Principal, Dr. Dotson, It is with gratitude and lasting memories in our hearts that we dedicate this annual to you, our prin- cipal, in recognition of the wonderful guidance you have given us in the past year. This is only a small token of our appreciation to you for your personal interest in us as individuals and for your never-failing enthusiasm in every phase of our school life. Truly your words will remain with us and will continue to be a source of encouragement throughout our lives. These are only simple words; yet we are only simple people who will forever be deeply grateful and indebted to you for the loving inspiration you have been to us. The 59 Seniors Principars Message To The Seniors. Commencement means to begin life's work. Get the best tools you can. But remember, di- plomas. degrees, and certificates are not an edu- cation; they are merely preparations. When you are through with the books, remember you are having a commencement, not an end-ment. Go out with your fine equipment from your commencement into the school of service and write your education in the only book that you ever can know - the book of your experience. You can make of yourself anything you want to be in life if you want it badly enough. For a full, useful life three things are nec- essary; Be something, know something, and do something. All three are essential, but the sec- ond and third are dependent on the first. You are safe on first; now score. Superintendent's Messag Seniors, To secure for yourself an education is prob- ably the greatest service you will be able to ren- der the society in which you must take your place. In the production of this annual you have accom- plished something that will be a source of pleas- ure to you for many years. Let this experience be to you an ever present reminder that nothing worth-while comes without work. The satisfaction that comes from useful, pro- ductive work is the basis for true happiness. May you find this happiness in the profession of your choice. MR. D. O. LANGSTON e Librarian MRS. MYRTLE TOLAND Go , Cars!!! DR. F. D. DOTSON MR. HENRY PATTON Picture Not Available MR. First, the class comedian, Wayne’s the one. He's always jolly and packed with fun. Then there's Johnnie Elam, a fine athlete, A nicer guy you never could meet. Jimmy is smart and passes all the tests, He's a determined boy - on the road to success. Phyllis is sweet and her personality beams; Teaching little ones will fulfill her dreams. It's perfectly plain that Steve loves to feast, And of all his worries, Macbeth is the least. Johnny A. habitually sleeps in class; But in spite of this, he manages to pass. Jean is kind but always stands her ground And she still remains best-all-around. The friendly one is Robert, but lovesick, too; Ask a favor of him, and he'll do it for you. Neil's always thinking of mischievous tricks And he and English just don’t mix. Janelle is sweet and well-liked by all; Her ambition is to hear little ones squall. Tall, dark, and handsome describes him well; We think Billy Vann is just plain swell. Jane's a good forward, she shoots a mean shot, But that’s all over; she's about to tie the knot. Joe? In him there could possibly be no hate, Except when a Democracy Test makes him break a date. Next in the spotlight, Virginia stands shyly, And all in S.H.S. respect her highly. Brenda ever is friendly and helpful, too; Soon she'll be wearing something old, something new. Mark is studious and never breaks a rule, Believe me, he is absolutely nobody's fool. Nothing can interrupt Jo Alice's studies each day, Except maybe a certain boy occasionally passing her way. Billy Frank is dependable, slow, and cool. More like him are essential to our school. Very talented marks Glenda, maybe a future star But I think she wants Just Married written on Robert's car. Claude is a hard worker and is courteous to all, If ever you're in trouble, give him a call. Quietness portrays Doris; to any job she says yes, If she continues her willingness, she's bound for success. James Bryson is clever. He knows all the scores; For him life has opened some of the very best doors. Marie could go places, see people and things. But we'll wait and see what life eventually brings. Most anything you ask, Charles can do, He's very competent, and has a willing heart, too. To us Paul Earl is the real-gonest cat That's S.H.S. English, but please pardon that. Morgan works hard and loves to make A's, He proves he's a gentleman by his courteous ways. Then our Sponsor, Mr. Patton, he's a great guy, Without his help we would not have gotten by. Yes, that’s the lineup, our weaknesses and powers, May you also find happiness, just as we found ours. Marie Leopard Imagine This Cheerleaders looking like this? A solemn football team?? Neil King wills his tardy record to Ben Forman. Neil has a perfect record. He hasn't gotten to school on time a day in his life. Wayne Tucker leaves his water bucket to Bucky Waid. Coach says he hates to lose him because he was the best waterboy he ever had. Phyllis Riddle leaves her friendly personality to Anne Walker. Morgan Canady leaves his lucky pool stick to Larry Wise. Morgan is opening his own pool hall. Joe Roberson leaves his shock-resistant football helmet to Collis Armstrong. Joe hasn't got it perfected yet; maybe that's why he's so crazy. Jimmy McCorkle, beings he is the brain of the class, can afford to leave a few behind to the whole Senior Two Class. Billy Vann wills Joan Carden to someone who will be nice to her; he is too busy paying for his car. Claude Washington leaves his SOUPED-UP bus to Billy Loggins, so he can be a hot-rodder, too. Glenda and Robert will their high-school romance to Mickey and Margaret; they are going on to serious things. Johnny Allison leaves his ability to be absent three days a week and still pass Democracy to Benny Martin. Jo Alice leaves her Hewitt High jacket to Glenda Lovell. Seems she doesn't need it anymore since the navy stepped in. James Bryson wills his ability to go swimming during school hours to Ronny H. Billy Frank leaves his book on How to Pass Algebra to Jerry Dailey. Paul Earl wills his manual arts diploma to Roy Washington and Loggins. Janelle leaves her crutches to another unlucky girl. Johnnie Elam leaves his sports ability to Bucky Waid; he figures that's the only way he'll ever get any. Mark Pearson leaves his loud-colored pants to anyone who will wear them. He is ashamed to wear them now. Brenda leaves her quiet ways to Emma Lee. She believes she could use them. Jean Marlow leaves her job in the office to Jeanette Johnson. Jane Cleary leaves play-acting to some lucky Senior Two girl. Marie Leopard leaves her scholastic record to one of those dumb Senior II's. Virginia Johnson leaves her shy ways to one of the unshy Senior Two girls. Doris Branham leaves her limber tongue to Judy Lovell. To all the Senior Two's we leave our long hours spent working for that little white diploma. To the faculty and students we leave all of our love and affection. THE GRADUATING CLASS Tune: Auld Lang Syne We are the graduating class, now don't Now don't you wish that you Belonged to us so you could shout, We're graduating, too.” Go all around just where you please, No class like us you'll find; The Springville folks are proud of us, That's something we don't mind. Now, watch the times for us, because Some day, some things we'll do. We'll build some houses, till the soil, And maybe patch a shoe. And maybe more than one of us Will reach the White House great. And then won't all of you be proud You saw us graduate. Chorus: Hurrah, for we're the best of all As schooltime goes, Not very big, but then who cares? Each one's the best that grows. CLASS SONG: CLASS FLOWER CLASS COLORS CLASS MOTTO The Graduating Class Rose Blue and White Take the world as you find it, but leave it better.
