CLASS PROPHECY OF 1951 In the year of our Lord nrneteen hundred stxty one the S S Spartan pulled out of San Franclsco Bay to begm 1ts crutse around the world I was amazed to fmd that the Captarn of th1s beauttful luxury lmer was Wmfred Slckle and servmg as members of h1s crew were Frank Belty Lowell McDonald Robert Flemmg and Leo Gxlbert To my astontshment the steward who showed me to my cabln was Bob Martln. After brush1ng up a b1t I dectded to take a lersurely stroll about the decks and there I spled the dlstlngulshed novellst Kent Maxwell w1th h1s pr1vate secretary Mxlhe Flannery I stopped to chat a b1t w1th them and glanced up lust 1D tlme to see Galen Smith strrdmg by rec1t1ng some of h1s well known po etry I walked farther down the deck and 1n a secluded corner I saw the famous Hollywood dramatrc rnstructor Marxan Schott coachlng her two favorlte puplls Barbara Pettit and Barry Thomas I cltmbed the steps to the top deck and walked over to the swlmmtng pool There perched upon the d1v1ng board I saw the former Ioyce Messlck the current Mrs Arnerlca Look1ng around I saw Barbara Phipps and Faye Pouncey sun bathtng About th1s tlme my stomach told me 1t was trme to eat so I went down to my cabln to dress for dmner I went 1nto the d1n1ng room on the arm of Earl Smrthern who mcldentally IS on h1s elghth trtp around the world w1th the Globetrotters Seat ed at a lxttle table 1n the center of the d1n1ng room was Iohn Fresh who IS now a yeweler and w1th hun was none other than Betty Anderson. I under stand she models h1s Jewelry 1n a shop 1n London As the orchestra began to play several couples left the1r tables to dance Among them I recog ntzed the former Carol Douglas Delores Bee Lenora Cleutat and Betty Gnfhn w1th the1r hus bands and Mr and Mrs lack Davxsson. I then nottced the featured trumpet player was an old classmate George Kungle My attentlon havtng been attracted to the bandstand I saw that the maestro was our own Ieanne Donovan. I see by the program that Carolyn Maloney IS the fea tured dancer After havrng such a wonderful drnner I was dy1ng to know who the chefs were I wandered about untxl I found the krtchen and there lo and behold were Buster Pounders and Dick Abbot all decked out 1n chef hats and aprons I went rrght away to get some brcarbonate of soda I saw by the schedule that we were due to dock at Honolulu the next day so I thought tt best to turn IH for the nrght After a good n1ghts sleep I was the f1rst one ashore when the boat docked at 8 OO A M I reg1stered and had break fast 1n a beauttful hotel owned and operated by Mary Lou Dllworth Then I started on a tour of the c1ty My guxde who I thought was a natrve turned out to be Arland Peck Seated under a palm tree strumm1ng a ukelele was Don Clayton. To hrs plunkmg of Hawa1an Sunset s1x pretty Hula Hula grrls Ellen Walker Gay Cottle Char lene Sanders Mary Knotts Manan Fluharty and Ruth Dudugpan were Hula Hula 1ng I went next on an mspectron tour of the hrgh school where I met two of my former classmates Mary Ann Barta and Slurley Knotts phys1cal educat1on teachers The pr1nc1pal of the school Nella Schmldt escorted me to the door and dt rected me back to the sh1p wh1ch was sallmg shortly As I gathered Wllh the other passengers at the ra1l to wave farewell to my frlends Mary lane Cunnmgham Carol Keith and Geneva Holland who plan to work 1n the Navy Shlps Store unt1l they got homes1ck I saw a group of fam1l1ar lookmg people What were they do1ng7 Youd never guess They were Ixm Clay Irm Boone Ronme Crew and Bob Boyles d1v1ng for co1ns thrown overboard by the wealthler passengers Needless to say I hurr1ed to the d1n1ng roorn to spend my co1ns My tea was served by a charmlng young lady Donna Smlth who was worklng her Way around the world When my shlp docked 1n Shangha1 I went ashore seekmg some real chop suey On a lrttle back street there was Chop Chops Chop House Of course you know who the proprletor was our old stand by Charles Browder Among h1s datly customers were Iohn Ayers IoAnn Malenack and Ioe Nofismger A few hours out of Shanghar there was great excitement aboard shlp One of our stewards Steve Park exam1n1ng the l1fe boats had dts covered a stowaway hldden under a l1fe pre server Who else could 1t have been but Chlc Crosxer Captaln Sickle belng an old Irlend of Ch1c's told hrm that he could remaln aboard untll the shlp docked at Calcutta , . . . , . . . . 1 . . - . . , . . .
