Freedom Jam Assembly The Freedom Jam Assembly took place on Tuesday, November 4. The students gave the rock group a warm Viking welcome. This was a surprise assembly, the students were not in- formed of the theme. They ended their stay in Columbia with a final performance Thursday night in the Spring Valley Gym. 1. The Freedom Jam group plays many favorite songs. 2. The audience watches the group perform. 3. The group shows their Spirit of 76 in one of their many skits. 4. Bubba Co- peland does a Bing Crosby, Black Christmas routine. 5. Tim Loche sings Slow Dancin to Allison McDonald. Freedom Jam Assembly — 29

Open House Open House was conducted on the night of October 11. On the agenda was the election of the Citizen's Advisory Council. The winners were Mary T. Kelly and W. Luke Harrington. Both the Viking Singers and the band provided entertainment for the attentive group of stu- dents, parents, and teachers. Mr. W.B. Nesbit opened the program with a brief welcoming speech, followed by a business meeting with Joe Kelly presiding. The night was concluded with parent-teacher personal visitation. 1. Johnny Moody sings in a 50's routine. 2. Mr. Edwin Epps takes care of any write-in candidates for the Citizens Advisory Council. 3. English teachers wait to visit with parents. 4. The Viking Singers entertain the audience with a few songs. 5. Mr. Nesbit addresses teachers and parents. 28 — Open House

Powder Puff Powder Puff was held on December 12 in the Valley. It pitted the girls of the Sophomore and Junior classes against the girls of the freshman class from Dent and the Seniors. The Freshmen outscored the Sophomores 22-0 and the Jun- iors overpowered the Seniors 14-0. The Sopho- mores and the Juniors were defeated by the mighty Freshman-Senior team. During halftime, Mac McIntyre was crowned the Powder Puff Queen. Mike Montgomery was the first run- ner-up.
