SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of '53, 105 freshmen entered SCHS with high hopes of making the following 4 years a success. Mrs. Nancy Smith was elected as our sponsor. Our class officers were: Ted Evans, pres.g Glenn Thorpe, vice- pres.g Marilyn Wiley, sec.g and Doyle Price, treas. Shirley Reed and Lorraine McCartt were elected cheer- leaders. In the fall of '54, there were 87 members who re- turned. The officers were: Terry Hinch, pres.: Paul Hill, vice-pres.g Edna Keahey, sec.p and Robert Ivens, treas. Our head sponsor was Miss Maxine Stone. The co-sponsors were: Mrs. Gladys Elmore and Coach Long. The following year, '76 juniors returned. Officers for this year were: Hoyal Boles, pres.: Robert Ivens, vice-pres.: Katherine Wilson, sec., and Hoyal Hollo- way, treas. Our head sponsor was M . Frank Ledbetter. Our co-sponsors were: Miss Crosby and Miss Starnes. Freida Ann Smith and Virginia Wright were elected cheerleaders for this year. We won the basketball ban- ner in intramurals. As juniors, we gave the seniors a colorful banquet. The theme was Dutch Gardens . To carry out the theme, tulips of many colors were placed around a large windmill in the center of the gym. To reach the garden, our guests crossed astream of aqua water, offering a welcome message in shimmering silver coins. In the fall of '56, with only 69 members returning, we elected Douglas Rollins, pres.g Clifford Newby, vice-pres.g Shirley Reed, sec.g and Paul Hill, treas. Our head sponsor was Mrs. Carl Fairchild. The co- sponsors were: Mr. Barker and Mrs. Denton. From our class three cheerleaders were elected by the student body. They were Shirley Reed, head cheerleader, Katherine Wilson and Edna Keahey. Out of15 seniors on the football team, we were proud to have the captain, Hoyal Holloway and co-captain, Terry Hinch. During this year, our class was honored by hav- ing the girls' basketball captain-Lorraine McCartt and Football Queen Katherine Wilson. Another member of our class to become a leader was Patty Alley. She served our band as Drutn Majorette for three years. We are looking forward to winning the intramural trophy when it will be presented on class night.
