From this school building we will each go in a different direction, each planning for his future. Many will go on to college, some will go to the armed forces and some will be- gin working. Each is doing something different, yet we all are seeking the same goal---the future., 'We may never be together againd so we have prepared this annual so that we can remember our wonderful days to- gether in high school. This annual presents the parties, the athletic events, plays, concerts and other happy moments. We have compiled events which will make. us smile and events which will make us think of the fun we had in Spirit Lake High School. - INDIAN ECHOES STAFF We, the class of '55, salute Mr. Orr and the Board of Education, for their tire- less efforts toward the bettering of Spirit Lake Consolidated Schools. I955 FOOTBALL Spirit Lake 0 Milford 20 Due to short practice schedule and lack of experience, the Indians lost their opening game to Milford. For many of the Indians it was their first game and they were out- matched by the superior Milford Pioneers. Spirit Lake 6 Emmetsburg 7 It rained allday as the Indians opened their conference season. Emmetsburg scored early in the game after re- coveringa SpiritLake fumble. Spirit Lake then proceeded to outplay the E'Hawks in every department, yet they lost. Spirit Lake 0 Cherokee 31 After a fine performance the pre- ceding week, the Indians fell to a Spirit Lake 6 Storm Lake 37 Spirit Lake cou1dn't stop Storm Lake's powerful back- field. Determined to wreck Spirit Lake's homecoming, Storm Lake displayed power and spirit which could not be matched by the Indians. Spirit Lake O Spencer 44 From the starting moments Spencer displayed power which had the Indians baffled. Not until the late minutes of the first half did Spirit Lake show any sign of life, but it was to no avail. It was the most exhausting battle of all year for the Indians as they fought desperately against the superior Spencer team. Spirit Lake 6 Sibley 21 The opening half sawthe Indians speedy C h e r o k e e outfit. It was a dazzling display of speed by Cherokee, spe e d w h i c h the Indians couldn't match. Spirit Lake 13 Sheldon 13 The Indians finally showed a sign of offe nse and defense. The game featured many nice runs by Spirit Lake and a defense which stopped the highly favored Sheldon team. ., , , playing one of their better games of the year. At the half it looked like quite a battle would progress and that possibly the Indians might win. Sib- ley displayed all of their teamwork and the Indians went down to their seventh defeat. Spirit Lake '7 Estherville 14 It was the last game of the season and the Indians compiled all the spirit and strength they could, but still went down in defeat. It was one of the best games of the season and it was no disgrace to bow before the champions. 4,. f f' if -., X-, uf. 1---, ! . They opened the season with a spectacular game against Estherville. This seemed to indicate that they had found themselves, but then continued in a los- ing streak, as it seemed that they lacked the necessary depth to play four quarters. Late in the season, underclassmen who showed promise, were brought up to varsity, but failed to measure up because of lack of experience. Lynn Hedges Mervyn Fronk '1 +A f -+1 -.-as-as-any M - , .. We will long remem- ber his helpful advice in building our plans for the future. And to the senior class of'56 we offer this peace pipe . The peace pipe, a token of friendliness and good will presented to Dorothy Jeck president of this year's junior class, by the senior president, Jim Gustav- son. O N Q 05 . The paper, books and pencils are tucked away now and the old bell has summoned the Class of '55 for the last time. Footsteps still echo through the halls and memories of these past years in SLHS lingerg brilliant for awhile yet fading as time passes. The door of education is flung wide once again, yet this time a new class will ascend and with them go our wishes for success, honor, and happiness, such as those that we have had. 56 k 'M f 'i F5 '54 U. -' f- If 1 4 'r 3 ii'-'K -f.w.Q1- LILLY A1.Lw.'1.,,,,fg:g,:,... .,m,'eAf,v at ',,..,L.H.4f-- g Muzi- -- gf nw- e' ff, ,.,, ..,,..v-c 4.4 ,...- - W--4. -.,.:..
