Since that time many changes and developments have been made in the history of our high school It has steadily increased in size to its 1950 51 record en rollment of 262 The increase in enrollment has made necessary a con tlnual development of the building facilities to house the students The first school building stood on the present location east of main building In 1914, the first major building project was completed, with the construction of the present building and gymnasium Again in 1938 the auditorium with its facilities was added to the school Since 1949, the present building project has been under way Work started on a one story grade school building the fall of 1949 This building houses eight grade rooms from the kindergarten through the third grade Glass block construction was used for windows because this type of lighting is beneficial ani economical The furniture and equipment is of the most modern type designed for the comfort and con venience of pupils and teachers Provision for the future has been made by constructing the foundation and steel work strong enough to support an additional story if necessary The ventilating anda11-con- ditioning is taken care of by individual units in each room operating independently of the main ventilating system The new building well as the other two buildings, is heated by a new gas and oil con version burner installed in the central plant during last Christnaaa vacation The archlt cts were Kiefer and Jones of Des Moines and the building contractor was Kucharo Brothers of Des Moines Placing the building in this location made it necessary to move the Hafer athletic field to a new location, one block south and one block east of the main building The beautiful new lighted footlball bowl was used for the first time during the current school year. On the same ten acre tract of land a Vocational Agriculture build- ing with modern up to date equipment is nearing completion. The area is about fifty feet square and the main part of the class room is 36 X 24 with a laboratory office 12 feet square. It will be one of the best Vocational Agriculture departments in the state when completed. Thea.rch1tects were Kiefer and Jones of Des Moines and the generalewn- tractor was Jackson Brothers of Emmetsburg. The building will t alie care of all phases of the Agriculture program including the Night Ad- ult School. Equipment includes an attractive class room provided with a tile floor, steel tables and chairs, ample cabinet space and a very complete Agriculture library. The shop area is equipped with all ma- chinery and tools needed for operating a modern Agriculture Department. Eventually space will be provided in this building for thesnummmodamon of teams and spectators from the adjacent football field. ,-Q. NYY ,tgi- .iiyy Q . ,Q I a X N34 E g-gin,-..
