Although losing all their conference games with the exception of an 18-12 win over the Sibley Generals, the ln- dians displayed plenty of spirit and fight. Captain Everett Baker, tackle, and Ken Nachtigal quarterback earned spots on the all conterence second team Both men re ceix ed honorable mention on the Des Moines Register all star teams Plavers who earned their letters in football were Oliver Wicks Dick Dean Don Reed ends Ken Swanson Dick Houser tackles' Dee Dickinson Bruce Johnson Bill Klesath-guardsg Bill Rodawig--center: Ev- erett Johnson, Everett Baker, Bert Harris, Ken Nachtigal, Don Boehm-backs. Bert Harris was elected captain for the 1950 Indian Squad by the lettermen.

wdww40a7W gi' 9611.53 -uf Q The 1949 50 basketball season was one of the best the Indians have racked up in several years Working under the 'swamp fox of the Lakes Conference John Webb who finished his 27th year as coach of S L H S the Indians reached the finals of the District Tournament On the way they de feated Estherville Lakes conference cham pion in the Sectional and then in the first game of the District they defeated Soencer the second place winner in the conference By this they proved they were probably the top team of the conference although their seasons record was a not too impressive one, 10 wins, 9 loses Dpi If Q ,naw 'grimy- ir RIT 105 AK LAM: LSA Q The first f1ve included two seniors Cap tam Ken Nachtigal and Dick Dean two Jun lOI'S Bert Harris and Don Reed and one sophomore Dee Dickinson Nachtigal probably the smallest player in the conference earned first team all conference honors He was a great ball hawk 'ind a real competitor Dick Dean our aggressive center won second team all conference rating Oliver Wicks was the sixth man all sea son and one of the best in the conference Bud Boehm Dick Houser and Everett Bak er did not play too often, but when they did th? never failed to give their all for Spirit La e. The second team has an impressive 12 win, 7 loss recdrd for the 1949-50 basketball season. Dick Thoreson, freshman, is the leading scorer. These sophomores saw most of the action under the guiding hand of Leon Uknes: Billy Klesath, Tom Naber, Dick Osgerby, Corky Omer and Jim Van Voorhis. All of them show fine potentiali- ties and will be a big help to the first squad next year.
