Lieutenant Commander Kenneth Hartkopf United States Navy I 1975 - 1976 Executive Officers A native of Chicago, Illinois, LCDR Hartkopf joined the Navy after attending four years of college and acquiring a BS at Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, Illinois. With the completion of Officer's Candi- date School, LCDR Hattkopf was commissioned Ensign in june 1964, five months after he jained the Navy. ln june 1964 LCDR Hartkopf reported aboard the USS FORSTER QDER-3341 and served as CIC Officer and Air Controller until October 1966. November 1966 found LCDR Hartkopf attending U. S. Navy De- stroyer School in Newport, R. I. Seven months later LCDR Hartkopf graduated and was headed for the USS R. H. MCCARD. LCDR Hartkopf served on the USS R. H. MCCARD CDD-8221 from july of 1967 to july of 1969, as Engineer Officer. In July of 1969 LCDR llartl-topf attended the Navy Warfare School for one month prior to becoming Executive Officer aboard the USS CONSTANT CMSO-4273 in September of 1969 serving until November of 1971. LCDR Hartkopf recezved orders to COMSC Far East in Yokohama, Japan, as Director of the Cargo,'Tanker Division in December of 1971 and joined the SPIEGEL GROVE in May of 1976. LCDR Hartltopf holds the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V Device, the RVN Merit- orious Unit Citation QGallantry Cross Medal - with Palmj, the Vietnam Service Medal with seven stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with clasp and the National Defense Service Medal. He is married to Betty Royal of Charleston, S. C. and they have two children, jennifer and Alyson. LCDR Charles Robert English was born in Brevard, North Carolina. He received a BS in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he was a NROTC Cslndidaw- He was commissioned on 6 June 1961 and reported to the USS CONY fDD-5083 as DCA. In 1963 he was transferred to the USS OGLE- THORPE CLKA-1001 as DCA. In 1965 he attended the U. S. Navy Postgraduate School in Monter- ey, California, where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. LCDR English then reported to USS RANKIN LLKA-1035 in 1967 35 Engineer Officer. In 1970 he was at the Armed Forces Staff College, then went to Washington to work for NAVSHIPSYSCOM as Proiect Officer for new construction AOR's. In 1973 he was Materiel Officer for COMPHIBRON TEN Staff LCDR English reported aboard SPIEGEL GROVE as Executive Officer in 1975. LCDR English holds the following medals: Navy Commendation, Navy Achievement with star, Navy Expeditionary, and Navy Unit Commendation. He is married to the former Vallaree Orr of Piszah Forest, North Carolina. They have two children: Douglas and Daniel. Lieutenant Commander Charles English United States Navy
