Spelman . . . was founded on April 11 , 1881 by two women, Sophia 5. Packard and Harriet E. Giles. in the basement of Atlanta '5 Friendship Baptist Church. With the purpose of striving for academic excellence in Hbera! education, the putse of these two outstanding women has transcended down through the years to develop dynamic black college women. The pulsating beat of Spelman also reflects on the beautiful structure of the campus.
