Miss Gloria A. Starks received her A.B. degree from Spelman College; she has done graduate study at the University of Minnesota, Howard University School of Social Work and at Teachers College, Columbia Univer- sity. where'she earned the Masterb degree. Miss Starks serves as adviser to the Swimming Club and t0 the Physical Education Majors Club. Miss Clare Lorenzi is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Miss Lorenzi is instructor in modern dance. Mrs. Hildegarde Bennett joined the Spelman faculty in September as a teacher of contemporary ballet. She has conducted ballet schools in Miami, Florida, and Philadelphia, and is presently co-director of the Atlantic Civic Ballet. DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION Miss Nellie Randall is chairman of the Department of Physical Education. She received the BS. degree from Hampton Institute and the MS. degree from the Uni- versity of Michigan. Miss Mary E. G. Christian received the BA degree from Wilson College, Bombay University, Bombay, India; her B.T. degree from the Government Secondary Teachers Training College, Bombay University, Bombay, India; and her M.P.E. degree from the International YMCA Springfield College, Springfield, Masa, U.S.A. Miss Christian has completed the residence requirements for the ECLD. degree from Teachers College, Columbia Uni- versity.

MEME' W Mr. W. L. James is head of the Music Department. He is a graduate of Morehouse. Mr. James conducts the Spelman Glee Club and the Atlanta-Morehouse-Spelman Chorus. Dr. Grace Boggs and Mrs. Lilla J. Johnson are also in Music. They are pianist and organist for the chorus and glee club and also for general chapel services. Dr. Boggs is a graduate of Hampton Insti- tute and Teachers College, Columbia University. Mrs. J ohnson is a grad- uate of Fisk and Northwestern Universities. DEPARTMENT 25 Mr. R. N. Rusack joined the Music Department this year. He received his BS. in Music Education from the State Uni- versity of New York Teachers College and the Master of Music Education from Indiana University. Mr. Rusack con- ducts the school orchestra and is a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. OF MUSIC

Min Wes+ relaxes a1 home wi+h a book Our college minister, the Reverend Norman Rates, received his A.B. degree from Kentucky State Col- lege, and he holds the ED. degree from Lincoln University and the ED. and S.T.M. degrees from Oberlin Graduate School of Theology. Mr. Rates conducts daily chapel services and Sunday Vespers. He di- rects the Sunday School, Mid-Week Meeting and Religious Emphasis Week activities. He also spon- sors the campus chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. With all these duties Mr. Rates still finds time to be our friend and coun- selor. His doors are open to us at all timm.
