FOREWORD The Class of 1956 is proud to present this yearbook as its share in the celebration of the sevenly-flfth anniversary of Spelman College. Although the four years which we have spent as members of the Spelman family are but a small part of these long seventy-five years, we, loo, have played Our roles in the making of Spelman history. We are the last of the classes presently at Spelman to have entered during the presidency of Miss Florence M. Read. During our short stay we hope that we have achieved some measure of maturity through these college experiences which have enriched our lives intellectually, culturally, and spir- itually. We have made new and, we hope, lasting friend- ships; and we take away memories hoth happy and sad. We have been enriched by the heritage and the traditions willed to us by the Founders. In this book we are seeking to pre- serve this heritage, and also these memories and experiences. We are presenting Spelman CollegeePast and Present.
