It doesn't seem as though it could possibly have been four years ago that I entered this school as a freshman. So much has happened in those four years. The games, the shows, the classes, all the laughter and the fights make these years unforgettable. When we, the members of the Kaleidoscope staff, were given the nearly impossible task of creating a book to help us remember this year, we decided that we wanted more than a diary of names and events. Since each person leaving Spackenkill has a different story to tell, we concentrated on what the individual can find here. In our search, we found that the atmosphere in the school changes from day to day and from place to place. In a book this small, it would be impossible to show all the different moods at the school, so we took the more important moods and presented them. We hope we were successfuli Sincerely yours, Leslie Wendover STAFF: FRONT ROW: Julie Wu, Leslie Wendover, Joann Janendo, Brenda Whitson. I faced it all and I stood tall and did it My Way. l've loved l've laughed and cried l've had my fill my share of losing, And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing To think I did all that and may I say 'Not in a shy way Oh, no, oh no not me, I did it My Way For what is a man, what has 'he got if HOT himself then he has not to say the things he truly feels, And not the words of one who kneels. W 'kk - an Spackenkill High School has given us the opportunity to learn and to grow for the past four years. We have all changed and hopefully benefitted from our experiences here. Although our school is young and lacks many of the facilities present in other high schools, it has provided us with many unique opportuni- ties. Now that we are leaving, we can fully realize how much we have been offered here and how much we have contributed. Participation in athletics, music, student government, and drama, to mention only a few activities, has contributed significantly to our total high school experience. The activities of our class have proven to be especially rewarding. Working together as a group has allowed us time to achieve a common goal. Although we have combatted apathy at times, the majority of our ideas have been met with enthusiasm and support. lwish to thank Elise, Lee, Teri, Rhona, Corinne, and Julie for all their help and support. Without their initiative talents the class would never have accom- plished a thing. As a result of their hard work and devotion, we have been able to finance our prom, plan our graduation, and organize many successful class activities. l also wish to thank those seniors who worked with the officers of the prom committee, the graduation committee, and the numerous other class activities. Reflecting upon my role as class president, l feel I have tried to help make the class operate and work up to its fullest potential. Through class confer- ences and open officer meetings, I have tried to involve as many seniors as possible in the leadership of the class. It has been my goal to act on ideas suggested by the class and to introduce these ideas to the class for their approval. Although the presidency has been a difficult job, it has always been rewarding. lwould like to thank John Chambers, Jim McMahon, and Maria Walsh for their guidance, insight and devotion to our class. Theirsuggestions have been helpful throughout the year. They allowed us the freedom to make our own decisions and encouraged us in all our endeavors. ln addition, their help in planning and organizing the prom and graduation was invaluable. We could not have selected three more dedicated advisors. The assistance we received from Dr. Breen, lVlr. Rightmyer, and many of the other teachers contributed to the success of our senior activities. The adminis- tration has given us the freedom and cooperation which we have needed in planning and developing our activities. Although we have had our disagree- ments, the administration has always respected our opinions. Their coopera- tion in planning graduation has been especially helpful. Our senior year marks the end of high school. The influence that the past years has had on our lives is profound. The experiences we have had and the friendships we have made, will never be forgotten. Hnally, l would like to wish the greatest of happiness and success to all the members of the class of. . . The first two centuries of American democracy have been filled with events worthy of note. Great progress has been made toward the attainment ofthe ideals so eloquently expressed by the founding fathers. As the nation has matured, goals have been sharpened and refined. During this bicentennial year we should reflect on the progress that has been made. It is equally appropriate that we reflect on progress yet to be made. America has come a long way. But this is not a time for complacency. Neither is it a time for the cynicism that has been adopted by many as a substitute for inadequacy or unwillingness. There is great hope! Hope lies in the hands of the youth of America - and not in a generalized youth , It lies specifically in your hands, you, the graduates of the class of 1976 and those young people following you! Look to the ideals of America! Ask yourselves how we have fallen short. Search your mind and conscience for solutions. Make the commitments and sacrifices necessary to attain that commitment. Examine our history, not to blame previous generations for errors of omission or commission but rather to see what has occurred with a view - and a vow -to avoid the mistakes of the past. The future is in your hands. We, your teachers, have done all we can to see that they are capable hands. Don't disappoint us!
