Independence and identity are the avowed aims of the college student. How- ever, a few days of registration can reduce those aims to absurdity. With the beginning of the new school year, Southwestern stu- dents once again faced the traditional gruel of registration. As usual, this nightmarish episode began, continued and ended with tension. The scheduling of classes encouraged many loud groans. Conflicting courses, 8 o ' clock Saturday classes, are iust a few of the obstacles brought about with the advent of the infernal computer. For Freshmen, registration was helped by Orientation. The help of special advisors and the planning of a four-year curriculum added interest to registration. In the end, the student promises him- self that next time he will pre-register, but there is no guarantee that he will beat the hassle of all the insanity of the first few days of classes. As he plods through the tedious rituals of enrollment, his so-called freedom seems like a distant promise. Rocky Lasserre and Steve Durick wait for Fee Card duplicates. 29
