Fall: Fifteen Weeks Till Christmas The smoke-scented haze of Fall greets two types of Southwestern students: those who are eager to study and raise their overall and those who could really care less about the whole thing. It ' s a new school year. For many it ' s a time for returning — the elation from the thrill of being home again; the joy of fa- miliar faces and easy smiles; the hint of condescension and a touch of sadness for the faces who have disappeared from the crowd. For the novitiate, it is a time for commence- ment — days that are too long and too full of wild, mad confusion; laughter and new people ; envy for the assurance of those who already belong here and fear of being lost and forgotten. Student involvement in University life is in effect a preparation for life in a larger community — the World. Thus, this is a time for finding oneself, for proving oneself and for preparing oneself for the day when one ' s college life is behind, and a new beginning of a new time is before.
