'f f'L' an OUTHWESTERN is noted for beautiful girls. Southwest Louisiana is noted for festivals. Together, the college and the area annually present a splen- did array of beauty, color, and pageantry. Lafayette, Louisiana, is the central city of the region, and the queens of the various fetes are, in the main, Southwestern girls. The festivals which have become proud traditions of the area are the Camellia Pageant of Southwestern presented in Lafayette and reigned over by an entire student court, the Rice Festival of Crowley, the Sugar Fes- tival of New Iberia, the Yambilee of Opelousas, the Shrimp Festival of Morgan City, and the Dairy ' Festival of Abbeville. It is quite fitting, therefore, that this book be dedicated to The Spirit of Festivals.
