As The finaIisTs sTarTed performing, IT was as if The audience was . . . Seeing STars T began weeks In ad vance lVIarcie Lea and I song To use said senior Heidi Johnson. AfTer we learned The song, we puT TogeTh- er our cosTumes along wITh The moTions we were going To do, Then we rehearsed and rehearsed again Till we could do iT in our sleep. We pracTiced in fronT of a mirror and in fronT of our mofhers. geTTing every movemenT down paT. This was The case for mosT of The performers. Pracfice began well in advance. STudenTs who wished To be in The Lip Sync con- TesT wenT for a Trial audiTion. From This, finaIisTs were chosen who would perform Their rouTines in fronT of a packed audiforium. I wasn'T nervous aT all. I had per- formed break'n before so IT wasn'T all ThaT new. We rehearsed aloT which was The secreT advanTage To noT being nervous, said Dwighf Guyfon, sophomore, who per- formed along wiTh five friends To UBeaT STreeT I Think The audience ThoughT iT was real good. They were really responsive To all The acTs. The show was puT Togefher well and firsr began by picking Q The finaIisTs looked like profession- als, which made The show even more enjoyable, said IVIicheIle Ridgeway, junior. The audience cheered every acT, Thus parTici- paTing and adding To The show jusT as much as The finalisTs. Valerie IVIcCray, junior, commenfed, 'il wenT because SouThwesT has never had a Lip Sync. I ThoughT iT would be inTeresTing. I enjoyed iT very much. I Think They should have one every year. AfTer Monica Williams and Der- rick Thomas welcomed everyone who came, The IisTars sTarTed sTruTTing Their sTuff. The reason I parTicipaTed was because IT was a good chance To be someone eIse, said STacey Turner, junior, 'Tor ThaT shorT period of Time ThaT I was performing, IT was like I was lVladonna, a sTar. There could only be one winner and NanneTTe WaITon came ouT on Top, receiving The fifTy dollar grand prize. Everyone Then came back on sTage To perform We Are The World Thus ending The specTacular evenT. The money raised from The show wenT To The iIWe Are The World Relief Fund To help The sTarving people in our world. -Nicole Sanders SINGING A GOLDEN OLDIE, Seniors, lVIarcie Lea and Heidi Johnson bring back memories of The Supremes by singing STop, In The Name of Love.
