Yanocek Current Events One of the aims of the social studies department was to provide a more significant current events program. Along with the study of geography, civics, and history, students were encouraged to learn about world affairs through television, newspaper, and magazine media. The twelfth grade accelerated social studies class experimented with a new progrom which included more individual study and reseorch. Exciting Changes Were Introduced In The Foreign Language Department Southwest welcomed Mr. Mayr, a foreign exchange teacher from Germany, who gave the students on opportunity to learn about Germany in addition to studying the language. There were larger fourth year foreign language classes with stronger programs. For the first time fifth year dosses were formed. A seventh grade program was begun in which students were given the chance to study a foreign longuage for six years. Effective use of the language aides was olso made. Mrs. V.
