We can again Ik very proud of our Southwest Hi-Y as they once more completed an active, exciting and successful year. They have truly practiced and carried out the motto of Ili-Y, which is to create and maintain a high standard of Christian living throughout the school and the community. By doing so they have learned to uphold clean sports, clean scholarship, and clean living. Ili-Y advisors and presidents are not to Ik forgotten either, for they have certainly helped the hoys to maintain a lot of initiative and a big interest in the services provided by Hi-Y. The advisors for this year were Mr. Warner and Mr. Pearson, and the presidents were Wayne VanderVort and George Fisher. Some of the highlights of their very eventful season were: selling Christmas trees at the Y's men's lot, sponsoring the annual Hi-Y dance, and helping with the March of Dimes drive.

After precariously dodging basketballs on Un-way through the gym and running interference with the stage crew at work. I lie stair members have managed to reach their “office” without incident throughout the year. There, in the little dressing room just off the stage, was done all tin-work on the annual: lay-out planning, picture mounting, and copy writing. In addition to the work of producing the Ixtok, the staff sponsored a dance and sold Homecoming buttons and l ookcovers to expand its limited budget. The staff would like to take this opportunity to express their appreciation to their advisor. Mis Nelson; and to thank Mr. Segal and Mrs. Robertson of the Bureau of Engraving, Mr. Carlson of the bund Press, and the Lundgrcn Studio for their services. ANNUAL EDITORS 1 Color Valll. This year the most iiii|x»rtant single activity of the Student Council was the starting of a long range student government program. Under the very able leadership of advisor Mr. llaaheim, President Bob Christianson, and Vice President Ann Sullivan, we have already successfully climbed the first rung of the student government ladder. A governing body has been established in the lunchroom, and the council hopes to add to the movement very soon by having students run the study halls. Besides student government, the council actively participated in several other activities such as sponsoring dances, supporting the Community Youth Center, participating in the West-Southwest Youth Conference, organizing a United Nations Day Program, and participating in the City and State Student Councils. Under the guidance of Mr. Ilaaheim and with the help and interest of the student laxly, we predict a very promising future for the Southwest Student Council.
