After precariously dodging basketballs on Un-way through the gym and running interference with the stage crew at work. I lie stair members have managed to reach their “office” without incident throughout the year. There, in the little dressing room just off the stage, was done all tin-work on the annual: lay-out planning, picture mounting, and copy writing. In addition to the work of producing the Ixtok, the staff sponsored a dance and sold Homecoming buttons and l ookcovers to expand its limited budget. The staff would like to take this opportunity to express their appreciation to their advisor. Mis Nelson; and to thank Mr. Segal and Mrs. Robertson of the Bureau of Engraving, Mr. Carlson of the bund Press, and the Lundgrcn Studio for their services. ANNUAL EDITORS 1 Color Valll. AH HOW EDITORS i Paula F.wnkl. New Editor: Sue Wilson. Feature Editor: Dave Albert . Business Manager: Kay I’mlioefer. Insert Editor: George Fisher. Sports Editor. Every third Friday is a very special day at Southwest. Just at the end of fifth period a member of the Arrow staff brings the coveted Arrows into all of the classes to the delight of everyone. However, a big sigh can be heard in room 414. for another Arrow has been successfully turned out to the relief of the staff. Room 414 is a very interesting place, for besides having the materials and people necessary to plan a newspaper, it has many items rarely found in newspaper planning rooms. For instance, the first thing you notice when walking into the room is the assemblage of calendars on the walls. These are to remind the staff of the many deadlines they have to meet. Another item of interest is the tapestry—very lovely, but actually there to cover up the dirt on the wall! An unusually small staff hasn't stopped this year's editors Paula Kwald. Sue Wilson. Kay Umhocfer, George Fisher, and the rest, from publishing a first-rate paper fourteen times this year. Congratulations to Advisor Mrs. Zittlcman and to the Arrow Staff of ‘54 for their fine job! We can again Ik very proud of our Southwest Hi-Y as they once more completed an active, exciting and successful year. They have truly practiced and carried out the motto of Ili-Y, which is to create and maintain a high standard of Christian living throughout the school and the community. By doing so they have learned to uphold clean sports, clean scholarship, and clean living. Ili-Y advisors and presidents are not to Ik forgotten either, for they have certainly helped the hoys to maintain a lot of initiative and a big interest in the services provided by Hi-Y. The advisors for this year were Mr. Warner and Mr. Pearson, and the presidents were Wayne VanderVort and George Fisher. Some of the highlights of their very eventful season were: selling Christmas trees at the Y's men's lot, sponsoring the annual Hi-Y dance, and helping with the March of Dimes drive.
