SWIMMING As in recent years. Southwest was again a top contender for the championship, finishing in third place with a record of eight wins and two losses. These losses were Washburn, which finished first on a 10-0 record, and to Roosevelt, which took second with a 9-1 showing. In the state meet, the Indians ranked eighth with Dave Bowers scoring all five points with a second in the 100 yard backstroke. The City Invitational Meet found the boys scoring all of their six points in the 100-yard backstroke with Dick Christianson. Norman Newcomb, and Dave Bowers finishing second, third, and fourth respectively. which earned them seventh place in the meet. Because of the widespread ability on the team, it would be hard to select any standouts. Although five men will be lost through graduation, the prospects look good for next year with a strong nucleus returning. Row I. L. to R.: Dave Bowen, Dun can Watson, Dave Christianson. Melcom, Mikkelson, Marc Wells. Row 2: Manager Gary Blumer, Tom Green, Phil Johnson. Dick Groo. Chuck Guthrie. Greg Hcimarck, Chuck Brace, Norm Newcomb, Ron Wcrdin, Tom Kent. Coach Pedersen.
