HOCKEY One of the finest teams ever to represent this school outskated all opposition to take the region five championship by beating both Washburn 5-3 and West 1-0. They went on to take the Twin City Championship from a good St. Paul Murray team 5-3. To climax a fine season, the pucksters placed fourth in the state meet to be the first team from Southwest ever to get into the tournament. In the first round they faced Murray again and won a thriller 2-1. The Indians gave champion Eveleth a terrific battle until they wore out in the last period to lose 11-5 in the semi-finals. Winger. Dick Meredith, was named to the all state team. Results of other city conference games were: Southwest 10, Edison 0, Southwest 6. Henry 2. The whole team was outstanding but special mention should go to the first line of Bob Lockrem, Bob Meredith. Dick Meredith, and goalie. Denny Sullivan. Bill Burkhart, Harry Horr'jon, Dick Nitsen, Clint Andrus, Don Schucttc, Tom Buiyn, Phil Walter. A squad that lacked height never quite found itself, gaining but one victory in the city race against Vocational, the defending city champions. The first game of the season was dropped to Washburn 41-32. Then came Vocational 42-40. A shortened and revised schedule, caused by a school strike, interrupted team practice and the remaining four games were dropped by the following scores: West. 46-43; North. 47-33; Roosevelt. 30-26: and Henry. 42-39. Forward Connie Hammer was twice named to the weekly all city five and was placed on the second all city team chosen at the end of the season.
