Swimming With Captain Newton Bowers and free style artist Jerry Leatherman leading the way, the Southwest swimming team finished with a 6-4 won-lost record. Bovvers lost the first meet in which he swam by only .2 of a second. Leatherman was a winner in every dual meet all season. Without any veterans in the breast stroke the mermen still managed to put up quite a fight in every meet. They lost to city champions Roosevelt by only seven points in a dis- puted decision. Coach Rudy Pedersen says that the prospects for next year do not look any better with the material which is returning from this year ' s team. Hockey The 1950 edition of the Southwest Hockey Team lived up to predictions. They were expected to make a respect- able showing which they did by finishing in the first division. Alter losing the opener to Roosevelt by the heart- breaking score of 3-2, the Indians came back to defeat ' ocational and Washburn by the scores of 9-0 and 6-1 respec- tively. The Redmen then lost to Central -1-1, defeated Marshall 4-0, tied West i-i, and were defeated by South 7-3. Coach Evan Haaheim ' s boys closed out the season by defeating Henry 3-0 and Edison 4-0.
