Football Under the able guidance of coach |erry Sullivan, an undermanned Southwest tootball team completed a comparatively successful season. In the .season ' s opener, the Indians felt the weight of superior numbers and were downed by a strong West eleven 25-7. The second contest found title-sharing Edison eking out a slim 21-14 victory. After absorbing their seco nd loss, the Indians appeared to go downhill, and were shellacked by Roosevelt ' s fighting Co-Champs 26-7. Traveling to Henrv in the tourth game, the redmen showed more spirit, hut again were put down 14-7. Inspired by the homecoming festivities, Southwest scored its first victory of the season against Washburn 13-12. In a non-conference game, the Indians continued their winning streak by downing Blue Earth 32-0. Returning to conference play, the fighting eleven upset a favored Marshall team 20-12. The string was severed by a strong Central Team 33-14 in the last game of the season. Congratulations were sent to stalwart center, Irv Cornwell, for his placement on the . ll-citv team; to Bob . rne for his four touchdowns at 151ue Earth; to Harrv Santrizos tor his all-around play and brilliant leadership on the field; to Fred Hanson for a remarkable place kicking record; and to the sophomore sensation, Paul Eddy.
