Every other week, the TRAIL staff is busy pre- paring to meet its deadline. Then, on every other Thursday, the freshly printed copies of the TRAIL are distributed to the school. In the homerooms, the halls, and the cafeteria, the TRAIL is the topic of conversation. Its articles are written by the members of the newswriting class taught by Miss Virginia Welch. All the basic rules of good journalism are put to use in each edition of the newspaper. The TRAIL is Southwest. In the first issue all sub- scribers were able to meet and find out about the two foreign exchange students. Throughout this and other issues, personalities were spotlighted in many facets of school life. Trips abroad by groups of students and activities of organizations were all well covered. Mr. Nixon was Southwest's choice to be President in a TRAIL poll. A calendar of events, editorials, and movie reviews were standard in most issues, not to mention the amount of information the reader gained from the TRAIL. Who would have guessed that Mr. Blair is a scuba diver and Mrs. Carlisle had been a witch in MACBETI-I? Or that Frank Swyden has a swimming rabbit? Nancy Reddoch, Denise Schwartz, Mike Woods, and Rick Baumgarten fold TRAILS in preparation for distribution. Greg Michalson, Nikki Levinson, and George Vedros work especially hard on the day of the issue. -F lla A! Fwd Business Manager Marcia Doubleday and Student Advisor Dick Wasserstrom balance the books. 21
