RED CROSS There are no hopeless situations, only men who have grown hopeless about them. This served as the theme for the Red Cross membership drive March 14-18. After increasing interest in the Red Cross with an assembly and a display case showing how membership money was used, the second semester staff began several worthwhile projects. One of their April projects was a window wash- ing session in the Plaza central parking lot. Shoppers returned to their cars to find notes saying, We took time to wash your windows, you take time to drive safely. The Sadie Hawkins dance, strategically schedul- ed three weeks before Prom, climaxed the second semes- ter activities on a note of success and enthusiasm. STUDENT COUNCIL The second semester Student Council under the lead- ership of Andy Sackin, recognized the need for a revi- sion of its structure and decided to start the ball rolling in 1969. All-School open meetings were held after school to survey student opinion of the proposal for a new council. ln these meetings, an organized group of concerned students submitted a second proposal and much debate on both ideas followed. From the synthe- sis of the two proposals a plan was drawn up for a council to be more responsive to student ideas and for this council to consist of all interested students and only interested students. Though much attention was focused on the large open meetings, other duties were far from neglected. The Publicity Committee concentrated on strengthening lines of communication with the students by keeping them Well-informed. Interesting assemblies, Carnival, and the Leadership Dinner were also products of suc- cessful committee work. This year's Student Council was a functioning body.
