After the dance the Council concentrated on filling the Veterans Hospital stockings and the overseas chests, adopting ten Christmas families for the entire school, and sending representatives to various conventions. There, Southwest was elected presi- dent school of the Missouri Youth Traffic Safety Congress. ' u The Red Cross, following in its usual tradition, led vario s money-raising drives, including the March of Dimes, the United Campaign, and the Red Cross Membership Drive. In the spring the Council and the Trail co-sponsored Safety Week, During this period a safety slogan was selected, driver education equip- ment was displayed in the Little Theater, and the Drive-O- Rater was obtained from the police department for demon- strations. In May the Red Cross sponsored the refreshment stand at the Carnival as it has in past years.
