SCHOLARSHIP ratings focused a great deal of attention on Southwest this year. When a survey was made of schools turning out National Merit Final- ists, Southwest was rated one of the top thirty-eight high schools in the nation. Publicity in many national magazines and newspapers, such as this illustration from Newsweek, resulted in a tide of let- ters to the school office requesting in- formation on curriculum and teaching methods. Southwest, the only school in Missouri to receive this distinction, has thus been officially recognized for its perennial crop of outstanding students. 76970016 cf f 4 I r 5 LEADERSHIP abilities of Southwest students have often come to the front with prominent offices. but seldom have we been so well represented as by these outstanding Indians, who hold the three most important high school offices in Kansas City. Student Council President Dick Menu has served this year as Presi- dent of the All-City Student Council and City Hall Day's Missouri Governor. Cadet Colonel Carl Reniley is student commander of all the city's R.O.T.C. units. We also had the President of the All-City Red Cross in the person of Bob Davenport. We are proud to add these three to a long line of capable Southwest leaders.
