Varsity tankster Steve Schulz, senior, prepares for more grueling competition during the four years of his varsity career. He plans to go on to Collegiate after his high school career. Schulz swam butterfly and medley relay competetion with a four-year scholarship at Indiana State University. Cardinal diver Fred Weidner, junior, displays his style for opposition. This was Weidner's first year as varsity diver for the Southport tankers. 102 Coach Steve Rager, who led the successful tankersters for his second year, rallies the team before a meet.

Cards Suffer 5-15 Season No matter how demeaning it may sound, the Cardinal hoopsters are the sole possesors of the "Dope Box" until next season. To gain the award, the roundballers had to defeat the Tech team. They later retained the title by slipping past Lawrence Central, 79-77. Southport was plagued with its usual tough schedule, playing state-ranked teams consistently. As a result, the team finished with a 5-15 season mark. Leading the team in scoring was Jim Hammond. John Schuck and Steve Shutz, senior cap- tains, led their team through a season marked by dual meets with state- ranked teams. Other standouts on the varsity team were Vince Pollard and Dirk Mayhew. Vince, a sophomore, was rated highly in the state in the individual medley. Dirk, along with John, Steve and Vince, composed the varsity relay team.
