style by capturing the South Central Conference
crown in Southport's last year of conference partici-
pation and by placing second in the County.

The addition of the gymnastics squad brings the
total varsity sports at Southport to ten. Coach Kerns
scheduled four meets for the team which split evenly
with a two win two loss season.

Mentor Richard Theil piloted the junior varsity
squad, which was mainly composed of sophomores, to
a l3-5 record. With hard work and perseverance these
boys are preparing themselves tor varsity competiton
in which they hope to participate next year.

The members of the varsity swim team were, First Row: Mark
Barnes, Gary Hood, Bill Tavenor, Tim O'NeiIl, Larry Russell,
Randy Beane, Coach Brunoehler. Second Row: Steve Sharrer,
Larry Lammert lfreshmanl, Tom Fedowicz, Dan Fleetwood, Steve

The S. H. S. tankers completed their best swim
season in their six-year history with a dual meet record
of 10 wins and 3 losses. Coach BrunoehIer's predom-
inantly senior squad began the season with impressive
victories and broke almost every school record in
existence. The teams only losses were to Columbus,
South Bend Central, and Kokomo. These three teams
finished first, second, and third in the 1963 State
Finals.
Senior diver, Steve Short, returned from the State
Finals with a first place medal and the honor of being
Southport's first state swimming champion.
