LOCAL HISTORY ' ' ' ' CLOSED f- oint of View From this threshold, Mr. Leedy often observes everyday life at S.H.S. Openrng the door to a new way of life at S.H.S. are the freshman class officers: Phil Wright, secretary- treasurer; John Hickman, vice-presi- dent; Tom Ryan, president; and Mrs. Pearson, class sponsor. Our life at Southport is continually evolving. The only way to stop time is to record the past in memories, for as seniors become alumni, as underclassmen become upperclassmen, there will be new faces and new classes. From this point of view, we immediately begin to review the important facets of our life at S.H.S. Those of us who are planning for college are grateful for Southport ' s high rating, both academic and social. We proudly recall the many football and bas- ketball games in which we participated in our meager way as boost- ers of OUR teams Now and later we shall point with pride to the many honors and tro- phies won by our classmates. We shall relive the dances and thank silently the many unknown figures who convert the concrete gymna- sium into a glittering, abstract mirage. Life at S.H.S. with its history and traditions fills, from fieshmen to senior, with a sense of unity. As each of us in turn proceeds silently along the aisles, clad in cap and gown, we will recapture these scenes — each of us from his own point of view.

Southport High School is more than a mass of brick and mortar. It is a society in itself composed of many people from all walks of life. It is a society which helps these people to grow mentally, socially, and physically. Southport ' s foundation is not of cement, but of hearts and spirits of students and faculty mem- bers, past and present. Its cornerstone is made up of school spirit and pride. This pride enables Southport students to rank high in any field in which they en- deavor or compete. Sue Hiatt and Mr. Theil inspect some of the landscaping made possible through the Student Council to beautify our school grounds.
