Cross-country lS one of the runner-up sports at South-
port l-ltgh School, hut nevertheless, It takes just as much
Coaching and hard work as any of the more popular sports,
LeRoy Shelley and Mlke Maze were the only returning
lettermen from last year's squad, but Chauncey McDanrels
moldef' the team into another creditable record for South-
port by wtnnmg the South Central Conference.

of the teams The captalns are chosen from the gurls advanced physical educatlon class The teams com

This year Sue Deckers team was the wxnner and Bert Boggs team was the runner up Decker entered
the tlnals from the wlnnlng bracket and Boggs reached the tnnals through the losmg bracket

Won County Tourney
Last spring, our baseball team won the Marion County Champion-
ship. This was an event which hadn't occurred for seven years at
Southport. Mr. Fredenberger, in his first year as baseball coach, had
a season of eight wins and nine losses plus winning the county by
defeating Ben Davis in the final game ot 5 to l.
The returing lettermen this spring are Skip Angrick, Jesse Black-
well, Howard Brown, John Maudlin, Morris Hancock, and Sonny Voland.
The leading hitter and most valuable player was Bob Wayman with
a .428 average. The team's best pitcher was Don Aufderheide, who
won five and lost four games,
