Wifh only fwo refurning Ieffermen, Soufhold gof off 'ro a poor sfarf. A mid-season vicfory over Maffifuck snapped fhe Red and Gray from an early season Iefhargy. Wilh +he sophomores and iuniors acquiring ex- perience, Soufhold pulled fwo upsefs in fheir remaining games and gave such powerful feams as Easf Hampfon and Riverhead unloolced-for frouble. Af fhe guard posifions, fhe Red and Gray had veferans Walfer Cain and Bob Moeller. Bofh seniors were valuable floormen, as fheir experience held Soulhold's early season forces fogefher. Cain was a hard driver and finished second in Ihe feam's scoring deparfmenf. Bob Moeller was especially effecfive under pressure. dropping in vicfory margins from fhe foul line againsf Maffifuclc and Soufhampfon. Jim Cassel proved fo be a valuable man af cenfer in fhe lasf half of lhe season. The rug- ged sophomore, besides proving himself a valu- able man under fhe boards, also showed scoring abilify on hoolc shofs from his pivof posf. Herb Fogarfy ufilized his speed af forward 'Io infercepf passes and score on fasf breaks. The ofher forward posf was manned by fhe 'leam's high-scorer, Francis Gallagher. He had an especially deadly sef shof, buf when crowded, he proved his versafilify by driving in for iump shofs or lay-ups. Wayne Williams and Ed Murphy also saw a greaf deal of service along wifh Tony Benick, Richard Grigonis, and Bill Caley. The Firsf Sefflers ended a hard-fought if no+ successful campaign, by fheir well-known sporfsmanship and faifhful feamworlc. Front Row: Walfer Cain. Francis Gallagher, Herberi Fogarfy, William Caley.
