Latm Club ATIN CLUB th1s year has been d1v1ded mto two orders the Senatores and the Plebs Ar the hr t meetlng of the Senatores which was held 1n Septemb r th followlng officers were elected mth the counsel of M155 Dav1s who 15 our Adjutrlx Adv1sorl Consuls Pres1dents Parker D1ckerson Margar t on 5 uaestor Treasurer Natahe Moell Scr1b 5 Secretar1es Betty Carroll Margaret GI'1gOI11S B111 Albertson Ce'1atr1x fliood Cha1rman Helen Card1na1 L1ctor Hoor Cha1rman B111 Palmer There were EllDOUt forty IT1CIHl3Bl'S lI'1 all Soon after the Plebs wlth the adv1ce of M155 Dav1s and some of the Senatores elected the followlng officers Consuls Dav1d Whxpple Helen Hunter Scr1bes Betty Sllleck Shxrley Tulloch Cenatrlx Dorothy Mlller L1ctor Walter Courtenay Twenty one members belonged to rhrs club A Senatores Halloween party was celebrated 1n October and at the end of the month all enjoyed a straw rlde to Greenport to see the movle Knute Rockne The Plebs held a Chrlstmas party 1n whlch glfts were exchanged and plans were formulated for the makmg of song books songs and cheers Soon after plans were also d1scussed for the constructlon of such projects as a Roman house a temple a camp and the makmg of scrolls maps and posters P11285 fOl' the best SOl'lgS Wflffen the Plebs Were awarded by a commlt ee of Senatores Margaret Flynn won f1rst pr1ze Mary Kouvnenhoven second and V1n cent Moms recewed honorable mentlon As u ual the Senatores arose early just before Chnstmas vacat1on to serenade the faculty w1th Englxsh and Latln Chr1stmas carols Th1s annual ev nt ended at Teddys at 7 A M On February 24 both Latm Clubs journeyed to Greenport to see the mov1 Gone mrh the W1nd On March L8 a Latm Club Dance was presented 1n the h1gh school audltorlum Margaret and Dorothy Grattan were co chalrmen of the af'fa1r The hazlng days for the 1n1t1at1on of the Plebs were held on May 5 and 6 Durlng these days the Goats were subject to vrgorous rules enforced by the Senatores No hazlng BXlStCd w1th1n the school bu1ld1ng for such a procedure 15 apt to dlsturb the classes The 1n1t1at1on ceremony was held on the evenxng of May 6 Th Senatores enjoyed the most of the evenrng at the expense of the Goats After the mformal program of stunts the formal part of the ceremony took place Followmg th1s procedure the entlre club jorned rn song and later enjoyed refreshments On May 22 both Latm Clubs comb1ned to present an assembly program A play, a sklt the salute to the Hag 1n Enghsh and Latm and songs were g1ven for the students of the seventh and e1ghth grades and the l11gh school students The Latm Club th1s year has been most successful 1n all 1ts undertakmgs due to the full co operatron of all All 1ts members shared a year of fun and wxll ever remember thelr good t1mes Press Club Preszdent Vice President Secretary Treasurer HE Press Club was orgamzed last fall for the year 19401941 Under the d1rect1on of our adv1ser Mrs Drller the var1ous appo1ntments of the members of the staff were made and several 1ssues of the Echo were publrshed In order to prov1de CXPCFICDCC for pup11s returmng next year the last rssue was publlshed ent1rely through the efforts of the Jumor Class As a member of the Suffolk Scholast1c Press Asso c1at1on, the Southold Press Club attended each of the LEWI5 BLODGETT HELEN ELAK CHESTER SKWARA JOYCE DICKINSON three meetmgs of th1s organ1zat1on They were held at Matntuck Rrverhead and Sag Harbor respectlvely The last named was the locauon of the blg event of the year the socral dance and the electron of officers A th1s meetmg John Wxssemann of Southold was elected treasurer of the S S P A for the ensulng year Press Club has proved to be most popular durmg the two years of 1ts evnstence and looks forward to another year wxth hopes of connnued success twenty nxne o L . . . .
