Omlcron Club HE Omncron Club has had a very successful pro gram th1s year under the leadershxp of the follow mg ofhcers Presxdent ean Drckmson Vtce Presxdent Kathleen Hutchmson Secretary Vxrgtma Vail Treas urer ean Grattan Seventh Grade Representatlve Vrr gmxa Hunter Erghrh Grade Representatxve Irene Malmborg Food Charrman Marte Terry Many rn terestmg and enjoyable programs were planned whrch featured dlfferent phases of Home Economrcs A play lt Pays to Budget was presented to the group and before the P T A members A fashlon show was also xncluded at this txme The gxrls sewed chrlclren s dresses for the Red Cross and made lapel decoratlons to drsplay school spmt for S H S Demonstratlons mcludrng steps for makrng bound buttonholes coverlng buttons and attaching them sewmg hems and makmg beanxes from scraps of materlal were gwen for the beneht of the members Our gxrls won hve of the possrble exght pnzcs for crochet and patch work rn the North Fork contest sponsored by the Suffolk Chapter of the D A R Those recelvmg prrzes were Crochetmg Lourse Kos first Alrce Kalachuk thxrd patchwork quilt Marte Terry hrst oyce Terry second and Helen Elak honorable mention Many social events were also enjoyed by the group A Valentme supper was glven after whrch the members journeyed to Hampton Bays to see the Southold Hamp ton Bays basketball game The club also enjoyed a hay rxde to the Rrverhead movres A barn dance was held rn the evemng of une 10 rn the school audrtorxum and much laughter rang from the gym Thrs enjoyable evemng proved a flttrng chmax for the years act1v1t1es Camera Club ON OCTOBER 9 1940 the Camera Club held its first meetmg at whlch tlme the followmg ofhcers were elected Prestdent Floyd Varl Vrce Presrdent Robert Horton Secretary Marran Drckerson Treas urer Mary Varl Plans were made for the busmess of the ensutng year At the next meetmg of the club several new mem bers were voted 1n and plans were lard for a field trrp and PICHIC Thxs was held a few days later and rncluded a hot dog roast It seemed however as rf the members were more PFOQCICDI at eatmg hot dogs than at takmg plctures but all who went enjoyed the tr1p At many of the meetmgs mterestmg demonstra txons were grven by the members Some of these were concerned wrth composrtlon exposure also processes of developrng prrnrmg and enlargmg Probably the most outstandmg meetrng was the one at whxch Mr Gerald McManus told us many tnterestmg th1ngs about pho tography and demonstrated the correct way to take a portrant Mr McManus who rs a noted photographer twenty :xx has exhxbrted hrs work rn many leadmg salons of the country and showed us some of hrs work A photographlc scavenger hunt was held and the group whnch took the best prctures was awarded a prxze The prlze conslstrng of crednt for photographic materral was won by the group captamed by Floyd Varl Hoyt Palmers flash bulb clld the trrck wlth a clever shot of a store wmdow Members of the club took prctures of the play Growmg Pains and photographs of students m other acnvrtxes The enlarger whtch was partxally constructed by Hermann Moeller last year was gxven some Hnlshmg touches th1s year and was used to some extent by the club Edrth D1ckerson Wrllram Palmer and Vrrgxma Varl became qurte prohcrent m the art Although the Camera Club was just orgamzed last year It has been so popular that many students have been admxtted to the club and xt IS now one of the out standing clubs of Southold Hxgh School l - , J , , . 1 1 1 l j . , 1 J ' - ' ' 1 ' . . . . , 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 ' . . . . . 1 1 1 1 1 1 - ' - . . . , - ' , . . . rc 11 , 1 1 . . . . . , ' . . . , j 1 . . .
