MW TRACK TEAM Track Notes A team composed of a goodly number of veterans plus a flne turnout of freshmen runners formed thls vears track team Only tvto meets could be arranged because of the long perlod of 1nclement weather I the first a trlangular meet w1th two Class A schools Southold annexed second pl tce The f1n1l scores showed Southampton wlth 58 polnts Southold 47 and Green port 32 Our runners took 4 first places and we tled for the 1n1t1al spot m the pole vault In a dual meet with Greenport the red and gray cmder burners proved too strong for the Porters wmmng by a score of 62' 2 to 4-Zn Three relay teams were sent to the Hofstra Relay Carmval the m1le relay group sped to thlrd place ln the Long Island Ch mplonshlps and came home Wlth med als Outclassed ln their races the 880 md medley teams nevertheless made a fine showlng thirty tw J The County Meet' Facmg strong competxtlon the t am salll d forth to battle agaln for the Class B ehamplonshlp Desplte the fact that we took only two f1rsts the good balance our team h1s m all events netted 'VSM Wh1le not a spectacullr team our boys have always shown a certam determmatlon m attamlng thelr Uo tl that of rtmammg county champs Let It be sald th It they most assuredly deserve the honors they have reee1ved for the past five years The loss of such fine performers as Bxll Sterllng and Ed Skwxrm m the 440 Art Dlckerson joe Booth and Ed Harrls 1n the we1ghts Bob Smford 1n the 880 Pete Ostroskl our alt1tud1nous jumper and waulter Frank Dues Herb Walls and John Courtenay three ine relay men and our ace speedster Charles Grattan from the spr1nt events will no doubt be hard felt A ine lot of undergraduate prospects should strengthen next years te lm 1n thelr ttempt to retam another permanent cup BOB SANFORD 19 I . .uf . 1 I la 1 . 5.
