The varsity track team had a very successful season. Highlights of the season were, a four point victory over North Montgomery and very respectable showing in the Charger Relays, Delphi Relays, Frankfort Relays. Southmont hosted the second annual Mountie Games and gained valuable experience against such teams as Gary West, Bloomington South, and Evansville Harrison. Several outstanding performances were turned in by record holder Don Mills in the shotput. The Freshman Track Team lacked depth this year with only 13 members on the squad. The 8th grade track team was very successful this spring. ln dual meet competition the boys were defeated only by Tuttle. The competition in the E. Tipp Relays created a valuable learning experience for all boys participating. The 7th grade track team has great potential and is expected to contribute heavily to future Mountie teams. If the boys continue to Work as hard as they have this spring there could possibly be some state contenders from this group.
