the school of law The School of Law is a member of the Association of American Law Schools, an organization whose object is the maintenance of high standards in legal education, and is on the list of schools approved by the Council on Legal Education of the American Bar Association. The School was established by resolution of the Board of Trustees in February, 1925, and was formally opened the following September. Last year the School of Law moved into a new quadrangle situated on a beautifully land- scaped plot of five acres on the northwest corner of the campus. These facilities, recently constructed with funds secured largely through the efforts of the Southwestern Legal Foundation, provide the law school with a physical plant unsurpassed in the South or Southwest. The objec- tive of the School is the thorough training of its students in the science and method of the law. The rules and principles are studied in the light of their context, their purpose and their actual effect upon the social institu- tions of their time. Together with the understanding of the body of the law, there is sought to be imparted the ability to apply its rules and principles in a professional manner. the school of engineering The School of Engineering was organized in 1925 as the result of cooper- ative effort on the part of the University, the Technical Club of Dallas, and the North Texas chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The original engineering building was a frame structure housing classrooms, offices and laboratories. From that time it continued to grow until in 1948 the Caruth Engineering Building was completed. The new three- story brick building, completely air-conditioned, houses faculty offices, classrooms, drafting room, and several laboratories. Other laboratories and the machine shop are contained in another brick building which was completed in 1947. The School offers complete programs in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The professional degrees Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, and Mechanical Engineer are also conferred. The curricula of the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical departments which offer degrees are approved by the Engineer ' s Council for Professional Development, the highest accrediting agency In the United States.
